Food for the Needy

Friendly reminder! It’s our first meeting of the month.

We will be collecting food for the needy at our Rotary meeting this week. Share what you can!

 Ralph Lewis Thanks You!

President's Message

Thank you to everyone who attended the Board of Directors' Meeting last Thursday.  We moved quickly and covered some good ground.

Thursday March 5, 2020 is our International Women's Day Celebration and Recognition Program.  Alicia Ruiz-Orbin and her Committee have been working very hard behind the scenes for this program and you do not want to miss this week's meeting.  Need a little inspiration and lift up?   Here is your opportunity.  Thank you to Alicia and her Committee for a job well done.

In honor of International Women’s Day and our club’s associated awards presentation, I strongly encourage each Rotarian to wear something purple in color to this meeting.  Get creative and let's show our support!  And as added incentive, you may be spared a "Fine Dollar" if you so choose to join the fun in purple.  The item should be visible of course, however, that is up to you how you will prove your purple effort!  :)

Hope to see you all on Thursday!

Steve Gould
2019-2020 ERC President
"Get Off My Lawn, My Kid's Trying to Fly His Drone!"
If you haven't had the opportunity to get to know one of our newer Rotarians, Wade George, his classification talk last week was a great way to learn about him and what makes him such a great addition to our club. Wade is family man, Phillies Baseball fan, train enthusiast, animal lover, history buff, a Xennial, and is dedicated to making his community a better place.  So dedicated he drives 35 minutes to join us for our weekly morning meetings!
Wait. Go Back. Wade is a...Xennial...what is that? According to Wikipedia, "Xennials are the micro-generation of people on the cusp of the Generation X and Millennial demographic cohorts, typically born in the late 1970s to early 1980s. Xennials are described as having had an analog childhood and a digital adulthood."  As a highschool graduate of the year 2000, Wade appreciates the fact that he grew up knowing how to use rotary phone but has also had the advantages of being a part of a tech savvy generation. (Hence his joke about flying drones with his kids.)  Speaking of high school, Wade met his wife Cheryl in 11th Grade Homeroom and these high school sweethearts have been together ever since.
While Wade may enjoy the digital age, he has a soft spot for history and in particular a passion for locomotives that stems from his Grandfather and Uncle, and he now enjoys this hobby with his two boys Wesley and Graham.  When Wade was just 12 he joined the National Railroad Society becoming his chapter's youngest member. Wade has enjoyed participating in railroad re-enactments and gave locomotive tours while attaining his Bachelor's in History from Penn State Abington.

Wade loves helping people. Did you know that he is a Licensed Public Adjuster? (and darn good at it) What is a licensed public adjuster you ask? Public Insurance Adjusters represent home, business or other property owners who have suffered a loss and have submitted a claim to their insurance company. They are advocates to the public and represent you. Wade is very passionate about his work and truly cares for the best interest of his clients at Alliance Adjustment Group.  Wade was recently given the opportunity to open an Alliance Adjustment Group Office in Emmaus to support the Lehigh Valley Area in addition to the Bucks and Montgomery Counties and surrounding PA/NJ areas he serves.  Through his experience in water, fire, storm damage and other types of home restoration clean up, Wade is able to be an expert in making sure his clients are treated fairly during an often difficult time in their lives.

Welcome to Rotary Wade. We sure are proud to have you in The Emmaus Rotary Club!

StarKist Chunk Light Tuna in Water, 5 oz Can - Walmart.com ...
The Feed East Penn Students Food Packing Program needs your help!

It has become more difficult for Second Harvest to supply us with protein sources for the 200 children we feed each week.  We are reaching out to our membership for help in collecting cans of tuna fish.  We will be collecting weekly until we have met the need.
Bring your cans of tuna fish donations this week:
Thursday, May 21, 2020
8:45pm - 9:15pm
In front of Bethany Bible Fellowship church (418 Elm Street Emmaus, Office entrance)
Don Blose will be masked and gloved with a box for you to place your tuna fish in.

If you can help please take a ride and drop off your tuna fish.  We feed 200 people each and every week and with the continued protein (peanut butter, tuna, chicken, cereal, and milk) shortages at all food banks we know our Rotarians will step up and help.  We order food from Second Harvest each month for the children.  We have had a substantial contribution of monies from a lot of different sources and I thank each and every one of you for helping.  To keep our monies available and still help all of these children throughout the summer we are going to need your help.  We will continue to ask each and every week until either we have too much or Second Harvest has the supplies on hand we need.

Thank you for your continued generosity in advance
Yours in Service Rick Zayaitz

Weekly Door Prize Donations Needed! Be our next meeting's prize sponsor!
It seems like we all like the idea of winning a festive prize at our meetings (in person or online).  We have had some very generous and fun donations over the past few months since incorporating this new aspect to our meetings. Many thanks to all who have donated a prize!  It is a nice way to give back to each other while doing some low-key networking for your business.
In the wake of the Carona Virus now more than ever it's important to show the local businesses in our community we care and support them.  They have shown us support with raffle donations and sponsorships throughout the years. Consider purchasing a $20.00 gift card from one of the many small businesses in the East Penn Area.  As we know every little bit helps. It's also a great way to start a conversation about Rotary and invite business owners and managers to a club meeting. Please contact Meghan Reed for more information about our weekly door prizes and how you can be help!

Upcoming Committee Meetings: Consider holding a virtual meeting to stay in touch and on task with your committee!
(Does your committee have an upcoming meeting? Let Meghan know and we will list it here)

Rotary and Beyond:
If you are participating in a fundraiser outside of Rotary and would like help spreading the word to our club members please contact Meghan Reed. It may be eligible to run in our new section in the Trumpet called "Rotary and Beyond".  It will cost $2.00 (Happy Dollars) each time you'd like to run the information in the Trumpet.  To have the information posted in the Trumpet you must be an active committee member or board member of the non-profit organization facilitating the activity outside of Rotary participation. The $2.00 entry may be given to Meghan at a club meeting.  Contact Meghan with any questions.
