Rotary Has Heart

Many Thanks to all who participated in last week's Fellowship Committee activity.
We hope that you enjoyed sharing some nice words from one another and hopefully got to know each other better.  It was heartwarming to see the laughter and happiness spread throughout the room.  J.P. and Steve, thank you for reading your list of kind words from other members to the group.
Emmaus Rotary truly does have heart.
Cheers to building goodwill and better friendships in Rotary!
XOXO  ERC Fellowship Committee

We also heard a very touching invocation from Bill Erdman that we thought was worth sharing again to reflect on why kindness matters.  Thank you Bill for an inspiring invocation.

Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children,

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love.

Membership Minute

Remember that feeling when you originally joined Rotary?  You knew the person that brought you in but were in unfamiliar territory. To try and help alleviate that feeling the membership committee is going to do its best to help every new member have a mentor to show them the ropes of Rotary.
In the mentorship program, a membership committee person will be assigned to a new member the week after the new member receives the news they are accepted into the Emmaus Rotary Club. The mentor will be there to answer questions, introduce the new member to other members, and help direct them to committees available for them to serve on to help make a difference.  The membership committee believes this will help transition new members seamlessly into our club. If you would like to be a mentor please speak to Steve Gould or Rick Zayaitz.

StarKist Chunk Light Tuna in Water, 5 oz Can - Walmart.com ...
The Feed East Penn Students Food Packing Program needs your help!

It has become more difficult for Second Harvest to supply us with protein sources for the 200 children we feed each week.  We are reaching out to our membership for help in collecting cans of tuna fish.  We will be collecting weekly until we have met the need.
Bring your cans of tuna fish donations this week:
Thursday, May 21, 2020
8:45pm - 9:15pm
In front of Bethany Bible Fellowship church (418 Elm Street Emmaus, Office entrance)
Don Blose will be masked and gloved with a box for you to place your tuna fish in.

If you can help please take a ride and drop off your tuna fish.  We feed 200 people each and every week and with the continued protein (peanut butter, tuna, chicken, cereal, and milk) shortages at all food banks we know our Rotarians will step up and help.  We order food from Second Harvest each month for the children.  We have had a substantial contribution of monies from a lot of different sources and I thank each and every one of you for helping.  To keep our monies available and still help all of these children throughout the summer we are going to need your help.  We will continue to ask each and every week until either we have too much or Second Harvest has the supplies on hand we need.

Thank you for your continued generosity in advance
Yours in Service Rick Zayaitz

Weekly Door Prize Donations Needed! Be our next meeting's prize sponsor!
It seems like we all like the idea of winning a festive prize at our meetings (in person or online).  We have had some very generous and fun donations over the past few months since incorporating this new aspect to our meetings. Many thanks to all who have donated a prize!  It is a nice way to give back to each other while doing some low-key networking for your business.
In the wake of the Carona Virus now more than ever it's important to show the local businesses in our community we care and support them.  They have shown us support with raffle donations and sponsorships throughout the years. Consider purchasing a $20.00 gift card from one of the many small businesses in the East Penn Area.  As we know every little bit helps. It's also a great way to start a conversation about Rotary and invite business owners and managers to a club meeting. Please contact Meghan Reed for more information about our weekly door prizes and how you can be help!

Upcoming Committee Meetings: Consider holding a virtual meeting to stay in touch and on task with your committee!
(Does your committee have an upcoming meeting? Let Meghan know and we will list it here)

Rotary and Beyond:
If you are participating in a fundraiser outside of Rotary and would like help spreading the word to our club members please contact Meghan Reed. It may be eligible to run in our new section in the Trumpet called "Rotary and Beyond".  It will cost $2.00 (Happy Dollars) each time you'd like to run the information in the Trumpet.  To have the information posted in the Trumpet you must be an active committee member or board member of the non-profit organization facilitating the activity outside of Rotary participation. The $2.00 entry may be given to Meghan at a club meeting.  Contact Meghan with any questions.
