Statement from Rotary International

At Rotary, we have no tolerance for racism. Promoting respect, celebrating diversity, demanding ethical leadership, and working tirelessly to advance peace are central tenets of our work.

We have more work to do to create more just, open, and welcoming communities for all people.

We know there are no easy fixes and that challenging conversations and work lie before all of us. Rotary’s strength has long been our ability and commitment to bringing people together. We will tap into that strength now as we stand with those who are working for peace and justice.

Rotary will do our part to listen, learn, and take action to ensure that we continue to contribute to making positive change.

President's Message

Hello Emmaus Rotary Club,

I hope this message finds everyone safe, healthy, happy and at home!  It is starting to look like we have made the turn on this thing.  I am very much looking forward to getting back to as close to normal as possible.

Emmaus Rotary keeps forging ahead as we have adapted to Virtual meetings held at our normal time on Thursday mornings at 7:30am.  It has been great to see everyone who was able to log on and I look forward to this Thursday as well.  We have deemed this month "Emmaus Rotary Virtual Classification Talk Month".  Great job to Mike Zambelli who led us off.  I appreciate everyone adapting and doing the best job they can as we navigate these unprecedented times.  With that said, please feel free to invite any guests you feel needs a taste of Rotary to our weekly link.  We are still tracking who brings guests and we have not stepped back from our goal for everyone to bring at least one guest to a meeting this Rotary Year(Ends June 30, 2020).  Virtual meetings count so lets keep the momentum going.

BOARD MEETING this Thursday immediately following our regular meeting.  Below is the Agenda.  This Board Meeting will officially get us back on our regular schedule.  Everyone is welcome to stay on if you are interested on seeing what happens in our Board Meetings.   Our agenda is very light and we expect to be wrapped up by 9:00am.

See you Thursday.

Steve Gould
2019-2020 ERC President

Classification Talks Continue!
We continue to learn more about our new members through their unique life stories.  At our last virtual meeting Michael Irwin shared his.  We got a glimpse into some fascinating family history including his Dutch Ancestor's Castle in Amsterdam that still bares his family crest today.  These same ancestors immigrated to North American in the 1700's, settling in a thriving Dutch community in Michigan where they started a very successful dairy farm that is still in operation. You can thank his family for their contributions to homogenization.  It is always really neat to learn about where our friends come from and their roots.

Mike's roots have made him a very strong and independent person, always self-motivated and ready to grow.  His maturity as a young man led him to become emancipated and able to live on his own while attending high school and working to provide for himself.  After high school Mike really branched out, getting into the kiosk fixture business where he was able travel the country.  What a fantastic opportunity to see and experience new places as a young adult.

His experience in this unique industry led him to start his own company and in 1997 Jaboa Enterprise was founded, named after a beloved dog.  Over time he needed more that just mans best friend, he needed a business partner and a community to call home and expand operations.  He and Chris Kline have become experts in the luxury brand fixture business and service well known companies like Apple, Gucci, Swatch and Swarovski.  His work offers a fun mix of products and global travel with Emmaus serving as home base for Jaboa and his printing business Vinyl Press Signs and Graphics

Mike embodies the motto of service above self and is active in both Rotary and The Emmaus Main Street Partners, a council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves as Chair of the EMSP Board of Directors.  (While Mike may not have mentioned it, it should be noted that he played a HUGE role in the restoration of our town mascot Emma The Mule!)  The Four Way Test resonates with his beliefs and way of life.  He brings these values into his passion, his role as father to his 15 year old son Trowne, who Mike describes as compassionate, smart and athletic. Trowne often volunteers with his Dad at EMSP events and Rotary Service Projects.  Sounds like he would make a great Rotarian too one day!

Celebrate Earth Day!

The Emmaus Rotary Club Community Service Committee encourages you to get out and make a difference on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

While we may need to practice social distancing these days, we can still get outside and love our planet! Grab a garbage bag, gloves and take a walk to pick up some of the litter that has been blowing around on the recent blustery days.  Imagine if each of us did this! What a difference it would make!

Please share how your family does their part on Earth Day by sharing your pictures with us! Post to your FaceBook page and tag Emmaus Rotary Club! Please also send us pictures for next week's Trumpet and our website. Check out Karen's awesome video about how you can help!

Emmaus Rotary Club in the News!
Last week Emmaus Rotary Club's efforts to to help families facing food insecurity in the East Penn area was featured in the East Penn Press! It is wonderful to see the committee's hard work recognized by the community.  Bringing awareness to important initiatives like this program helps our Club to reach other community leaders and possible new partners to aid in this program. In addition, it may spark the interest of potential new members who would like to get involved with our Club because they want to be a part of something good!  Please read and share this article to help continue to bring light to the issue of hunger right here in our neighborhoods and how organizations like Emmaus Rotary Club are here to make a positive impact.

The Feed East Penn Students Food Packing Program needs your help!

It has become more difficult for Second Harvest to supply us with protein sources for the 200 children we feed each week.  We are reaching out to our membership for help in collecting cans of tuna fish.  We will be collecting weekly until we have met the need.
Bring your cans of tuna fish donations this week:
Thursday June 25, 2020
(The time will be adjusted due to the Board Meeting this week please stay tuned for a time from Rick in a separate email)
In front of Bethany Bible Fellowship church (418 Elm Street Emmaus, Office entrance)

If you can help please take a ride and drop off your tuna fish.  We feed 200 people each and every week and with the continued protein (peanut butter, tuna, chicken, cereal, and milk) shortages at all food banks we know our Rotarians will step up and help.  We order food from Second Harvest each month for the children.  We have had a substantial contribution of monies from a lot of different sources and I thank each and every one of you for helping.  To keep our monies available and still help all of these children throughout the summer we are going to need your help.  We will continue to ask each and every week until either we have too much or Second Harvest has the supplies on hand we need.

Thank you for your continued generosity in advance
Yours in Service Rick Zayaitz

Weekly Door Prize Donations Needed! Be our next meeting's prize sponsor!
It seems like we all like the idea of winning a festive prize at our meetings (in person or online).  We have had some very generous and fun donations over the past few months since incorporating this new aspect to our meetings. Many thanks to all who have donated a prize!  It is a nice way to give back to each other while doing some low-key networking for your business.
In the wake of the Corona Virus now more than ever it's important to show the local businesses in our community we care and support them.  They have shown us support with raffle donations and sponsorships throughout the years. Consider purchasing a $20.00 gift card from one of the many small businesses in the East Penn Area.  As we know every little bit helps. It's also a great way to start a conversation about Rotary and invite business owners and managers to a club meeting. Please contact Meghan Reed for more information about our weekly door prizes and how you can be help!

Upcoming Committee Meetings: Consider holding a virtual meeting to stay in touch and on task with your committee!
(Does your committee have an upcoming meeting? Let Meghan know and we will list it here)

Rotary and Beyond:
If you are participating in a fundraiser outside of Rotary and would like help spreading the word to our club members please contact Meghan Reed. It may be eligible to run in our new section in the Trumpet called "Rotary and Beyond".  It will cost $2.00 (Happy Dollars) each time you'd like to run the information in the Trumpet.  To have the information posted in the Trumpet you must be an active committee member or board member of the non-profit organization facilitating the activity outside of Rotary participation. The $2.00 entry may be given to Meghan at a club meeting.  Contact Meghan with any questions.
Welcome to the Emmaus Rotary Club!
