President's Message

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

A Rotary Foundation flyer came in the mail today. Maybe you got one also. Although Bill Erdman and his newly deputized sick-kick Fred Herman remain ready, willing, and able to handle all your questions and contributions to the Rotary Foundation, the form with its return envelope is a handy way to send along your donations. If you use the mailer's form, please fill in the codes for our District  (7430)  and for Emmaus Rotary ( 5427)  so that our club is credited.

Maybe this will be a message full of reminders! Have you gotten your ticket for this Sunday’s Cornhole Tournament and Beef n Beer yet? We have almost filled our brackets for the competing teams. It promises to be a sunny day so wearing sunscreen and broad-brimmed hats seem like a good idea.  I am looking forward to kibbitzing from the sidelines! If you have any issues getting tickets online, please speak to Sal Verrastro. All the profits from this fundraiser are earmarked for our Feeding Program for students and their families at East Penn School District. We have gotten wonderful support from community sponsors.

Meghan Reed is taking RSVPs for our Friday night cook-out and 4 Way Fun Test speech contest which will be held at the Rotary Pavilion at Emmaus Community Park on June  25th beginning around 6 p.m. Good food, convivial fellowship, and some light-hearted competition… hmmm. That sounds like a full plate of fun! This week at our regular Thursday morning meeting, we will be hearing the winning speech from this spring’s contest at Emmaus High School. So we might get some pointers! Remember, our speeches can be more light-hearted-- though penalties will be assigned for remarks which may well be timely, but are nevertheless over the time limit.  Prizes will be awarded.  Bring your spouse, family, and friends.

It is not too late to register for the 2021 Virtual Rotary Convention June 12- 16th. Visit convention.rotary.org  for details and to register. Zoom with Rotarians around the globe!

This last bit of news does not count as a reminder for you -- unless it prompts you to cheer! Cindy Hornaman sent an email on Monday to happily let me know that the East Penn School District is contributing $2,900 toward our Feeding Program for East Penn School District students and their families. It is truly heartwarming to have such a solid partnership with them.

Yours in Service,

Lexa Shallcross

Emmaus Rotary President 2020-2021

Virtual Meetings are still Available!
We are meeting in person but if you prefer the virtual option is still available!  We are back live at the Brookside Country Club.  Vaccinated guests do not need to wear masks inside or outside of the club. Non-vaccinated or partially vaccinated people should continue to wear them inside and outside while moving around the Clubhouse but can remove them when seated.  Starting in July, the mask mandate expires and all guests, vaccinated or non-vaccinated, can retire their masks until our next pandemic.

But our meetings will continue to be Hybrid and continue to provide you the meeting virtually.

If you are joining us online, please use the link below to join us this Thursday, at 7:30 AM or sooner if you would like.
We still encourage you to invite a virtual guest to help introduce Rotary to someone who could make a great Rotarian.  Simply share the link provided in the red section below with your guest. Pleas ask all guest to sign in as - their name (guest of...?) - in the name field so we know who they were invited by.

July Is....
July is Rotary Leadership Month

July is designated New Leadership Month - each year Rotary Clubs and Districts across the globe induct new leaders. Our leaders exemplify all of the qualities that make our members extraordinary; integrity, expertise, and commitment to service.

Rotary develops leaders by providing opportunities for all members to provide service to our local communities and communities across the globe. With that service comes a learning experience in the areas of leadership, team building, planning, marketing, communication, and organization.

Serving as a Club or District officer or committee member provides an opportunity to enrich your leadership skills by sharing experiences and ideas with other Rotarians throughout the region.

“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”

Here is a link to the cool video by Eric Loch of the weekly food packing

As you all know the Emmaus Rotary leads the establishment of the East Penn Food Coalition along with other community service groups to meet hunger needs in the East Penn School District Community.

We have reached a critical point to fund the East Penn Food Coalition, Feed East Penn Students Program. We currently serve over 200 children a week and need your help to raise money to continue to feed hungry kids in our community.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!   We are seeking business, grants, and individual donations to support over $20,000 in need.
You can provide help for our neighbors in need in the following ways:

Rotary District 7430 COVID-19 Guidelines

COVID-19 is impacting us all in our personal, professional and Rotary lives.  We must base our decisions about Rotary activities on the health and safety of our members and compliance with government and health regulations.  Even though we may not be able to conduct the usual weekly in person meetings, many of our clubs are leading or participating in food and other relief programs in their communities.  These efforts will likely be continuing through the balance of this Rotary year and into the future.

With this in mind, the following are guidelines for all Rotary District 7430 activities:

  • All guidelines set forth by the Governor, counties and other authorized persons in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the CDC should be followed.
  • Should any Rotarian be diagnosed with or have symptoms that they suspect to be consistent with COVID-19, that Rotarian shall:
    • Not participate in any Rotary event that involves a personal appearance at the event.
    • Report their diagnoses or symptoms to the Rotarian supervising any program in which they have participated in-person within fourteen (14) days before the diagnoses or occurrence of symptoms.
We also suggest that you adopt guidelines for your clubs that reflect the current health crisis.
