President's Message
Dear Emmaus Rotarians,

I already have my eye on the extended weather forecasts! Lets all cross our fingers for a cool, crisp day with clear blue skies on Monday, September 14, 2020 when we hold our 13th Annual Golf Tournament.  Meanwhile, buy a raffle ticket. Sell several more. We are aiming to sell all 300 to max out the excitement for the prize winners--- a $4000 gold bangle diamond bracelet from Eric Loch Diamond Jewelers and 2 gift cards!! -- one for $1,000 to PA Wine and Spirits and another for $1,000 to Shangy's Beer Emporium.

Meanwhile, it looks like we can get back together for a regular Thursday morning meeting on September 10th. Mike Waddell and Sue Wenner have been working with Brookside Country Club and it seems we fit under their tent! Keep a look out for details. This week Janet Kolepp, our District Governor, will officially visit Emmaus Rotary for our virtual meeting. So, folks, how do we "stand for the district governor" as is our protocol when we are in Vox Tandem land? What do you think? Do we stand in our own homes and offices? Do we clap? Do we enthusiastically wave our hands?

Last Thursday, the Board accepted a report from the Fund-raising Oversight standing committee which looked at all the brainstorming data from early July. They are recommending 3 possible new fund raising events to add to our Golf Outing, Beef n Beer and the Poker Cycle Run.
These include a USA flag subscription service for the East Penn area, a cornhole tournament, and a miniature golf tournament. The Board has given its official nod to these events. So we are looking at scheduling and staffing. You, know- all those details. If one of these events captures your attention, please speak to Mike Waddell, the Czar, and  Meghan Reed or Sal Verrastro for more information, to share the excitement or to volunteer.

Let me note one change here and you will be caught up- for now!  East Penn School System is back in session. We are changing the day we pack food and the locations for distribution. Think Wednesdays for now. We will pack early on Wednesday mornings at Bethel Church where the PLUS Groceries Food Pantry in Emmaus is located and then drive immediately to three schools for distribution. Cindy Hornaman and Rick Zayaitz have details.

Yours in Service,
Lexa Shallcross

Cheers to Fellowship!
When life hands you lemons go find some grapes! The Fellowship Virtual Wine Tasting held last week was a nice way to stay connected and create new memories while not being able to get together in person.  Many thanks to Joe Pugliese and Michael Orbin for hosting the tasting along with Dina Zayaitz who introduced us to a very tasty wine from Scout and Cellar and creating a lovely zoom meeting for us. Dina has been so kind as to donate the proceeds of this event to the Food Insecure Children of EPSD.   If you'd like to order a bottle of wine and give back to our Food Packing Program simply click the link below.
Please reach out to Dina with any questions. dinaczayaitz@gmail.com

Rotary District 7430 COVID-19 Guidelines

COVID-19 is impacting us all in our personal, professional and Rotary lives.  We must base our decisions about Rotary activities on the health and safety of our members and compliance with government and health regulations.  Even though we may not be able to conduct the usual weekly in person meetings, many of our clubs are leading or participating in food and other relief programs in their communities.  These efforts will likely be continuing through the balance of this Rotary year and into the future.

With this in mind, the following are guidelines for all Rotary District 7430 activities:

  • All guidelines set forth by the Governor, counties and other authorized persons in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the CDC should be followed.
  • Should any Rotarian be diagnosed with or have symptoms that they suspect to be consistent with COVID-19, that Rotarian shall:
    • Not participate in any Rotary event that involves a personal appearance at the event.
    • Report their diagnoses or symptoms to the Rotarian supervising any program in which they have participated in-person within fourteen (14) days before the diagnoses or occurrence of symptoms.
We also suggest that you adopt guidelines for your clubs that reflect the current health crisis.
