President's Message-Rotary's fight against Polio continues

Pakistan is working on getting their Polio numbers to zero.  Above is a picture of volunteers in Pakistan getting Between Rotary International, Doctors without borders and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation we will see this in our lifetime.  The Purple Pinkie walk/run for our District will take place on October 13th at the LCCC campus in
Schnecksville.  We will not only raise awareness of what Rotary does to help fight Polio we will be asking for donations for walkers and runners to help offset the cost of eradication of Polio throughout the world.   We are so close to eradicating this horrible disease and yes because of worldwide economies and governments we may see some small centers of Polio return but we are here to fight the battle till the end.  Please sign up to walk or run on October 13th, and if you cannot run or walk that day think about a donation to one of the participants to help this amazing cause.  Go to the district website https://www.rotarydistrict7430.org to sign up.

Dear District 7430 Rotarians,

Come and join us for 8th Yvette M. Palmer Purple Pinkie Race to Zero 5K Run/1 mile fun walks.   This year we have two events in different parts of our district so that many more of us can participate! The first was held on October 6th at DelVal in Doylestown. So we are now looking toward ---

Saturday, October 13, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Schnecksville, PA, 9:30 AM start

All Proceeds will be donated to Polio Plus and every Dollar Raised will be TRIPLED by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

To sign up for the race, or learn more, visit the website at www.purplepinkie.net.   You can either register online or mail in the registration form available on the website.

You don’t need to run to participate.  Most people walk!  It will be a fun event.  Bring your family and friends.  We will have awards for the race winners and also many drawings for door prizes, so both runners and walkers will be winners.  We will also have great food!  We will have members of the Pennsylvania Polio Survivors Network at both events to talk to participants about their experiences with polio.

Sign up Early to avoid the Cost Increase: The cost to participate is $25 ($15 if 17 and under) (includes tech T-shirt) before Sep 20.  After September 20 and on race day, the cost is $35 ($25 if 17 and under) (tech T-shirt only while supplies last).  Come on out and have a great time for a great cause!

Ask Others to Sponsor You: Help us raise much more money for Polio Plus by asking Rotarians and friends who can't attend to sponsor you.  Sponsor sheets and details are available on the Purple Pinkie website.  Any Rotarian that sponsors a runner/walker will get credit towards their Paul Harris.

Special prize basket for largest group running or walking together: Interact Clubs, Rotary Clubs, families, other organizations, sports teams.  If you have the largest number of folks walking or running in either Purple Pinkie event, you will receive a special prize basket for all to share!  Those who walk or run together will eliminate Polio together!

Questions: E-mail the Race Directors  Doylestown race: Kevin Crail (crailsrunning@gmail.com)   Schnecksville Race: John Scott (JonhScottL@msn.com).

Hoping to Collect 200 Deodorants

Dear Rotarians,

It is the last week!!

We have collected 154 deodorants and this is our last week to reach our optimum goal of 200 for the Angel Network.  I will be delivering our contribution to Holy Spirit Church on November 12th. I want to thank all of you who have made contributions to this drive. We are working with the Angel Network again to provide Baskets for families of East Penn School District.  In the past, we have collected tuna, soup, dish detergent, and pasta.

Every year when we do this I am amazed at the support of our club and proud to be a member of the best club in the Lehigh Valley!

Update on Sign-In Table Procedures

Our club audit review committee recommended better controls on cash handling at club meetings.
[This is similar to what we used to do years ago.

 i.    The two people at the sign in desk will record the amount of money the club will deposit
ii.    Filling in the meeting date on the top of the tally sheet that came with the sign-in sheet
iii.    Counting the breakfast and food pantry cash and checks and recording them on the tally sheet.

            Notes:
Some people pay for breakfast ahead and this is noted next to their name.
Count them in head count when they are present.
Give the Greeter the raffle winnings money before filling out the tally sheet.
There is a calculator in the club box

iv.    Totaling the ‘$ amount’ column
 v.    Counting and recording the number of ‘members attending’,
‘guests\visiting Rotarians (paying)’ and ‘guests\speakers (non-paying)’on the tally sheet.
vi.    Both sign-in table people sign the tally sheet confirming the accuracy of the report.
vii.    Give the tally sheet to the Sergeant-At-Arms.

         b.    The Sergeant-At-Arms will complete the fines/happy dollars section of the tally sheet and sign it.

         c.     The tally sheet goes with the cash to the Treasurer if present, or to the Secretary if present
or to the Club President, in that order.
