Festive Fellowship

This Thursday December 2nd your Fellowship Committee will be hosting a very festive program!

Be sure to bring your hard earned Rotary Dollars! Those millions will come in handy at our first ever Rotarian Shopper Shop. You’ll be able to cash in your bucks for Rotary themed items and other gifts donated by members. Treat yourself or surprise a friend with a Rotary Gift.

We will continue the tradition of sending each Emmaus Rotarian a Season’s Greeting card. You’ll pick a Rotarian’s name from a hat and surprise that person with nice message for the Holidays.  Cards and stamps will be provided! For those joining us on zoom please use the image included in the “read more” section to print and create your note. We will match virtual attendees with names as well.

Gingerbread house team building! Each table team will build a festive gingerbread house for the students of Willow Lane Elementary School to enjoy! The houses will be displayed and the kids will vote on their favorites. The house with the most votes will be rich with millions of Rotary Dollars at our December 23rd meeting.

So bust out your favorite ugly holiday sweater or whatever makes you feel in the holiday spirit.  Who knows…instead of fines your might get a million bucks!

President's Message
This month’s focus is Disease Prevention and Treatment month, could there be anything more timely considering the pandemic events of the past almost two years?  However, these events directly affected us for a relatively short period of time compared to the 400 million people who face some sort of possible medical crisis most of their lives.  For me, I’m very proud that disease prevention and treatments is something that we support with our efforts throughout the year.

Here's information from Rotary.org with more specifics if you want to know more:

From Rotary.org

We believe good health care is everyone’s right. Yet 400 million people in the world can’t afford or don’t have access to basic health care.

Disease results in misery, pain, and poverty for millions of people worldwide. That’s why treating and preventing disease is so important to us. We lead efforts both large and small. We set up temporary clinics, blood donation centers, and training facilities in underserved communities struggling with outbreaks and health care access. We design and build infrastructure that allows doctors, patients, and governments to work together.
Our members combat diseases like malaria, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and polio. Prevention is important, which is why we also focus on health education and bringing people routine hearing, vision, and dental care.

And keep saving those Rotary Dollars for your opportunity to buy valuable gifts.

Xmas Trees To Fight Cancer

Rotarians doing good alert!

Karen Paules has a wonderful way to give back while celebrating tradition.

Starting on Black Friday for Friends and Family (that's you!) and then every Saturday between Thanksgiving and Christmas Karen will be offering 6 foot tall Christmas trees for the price of a donation to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley.  This year the trees have been donated, the ones planted aren't ready yet. 😊 Even if you use an artificial tree, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be here at the times listed on the flyer. Make a donation and get Santa pictures, for kids, adults and pets too!!

International Women's Day Celebration
Fellow Emmaus Rotarians,

As a follow up to the announcement I made at our club meeting last week regarding our Emmaus Club International Women's Day Celebration Awards, I would like to clarify that our club gives two Awards:  1) The Rotarian Award to a woman Rotarian from a Rotary Club in Areas 1 and 2 (the Lehigh Valley), and 2) the Community Award to a woman from the Lehigh Valley.

1. Rotarian Award - Only the Club President can nominate a Rotarian from their club; however, Rotarians from that club can make recommendations to the President.  A letter was mailed to all the Areas 1 and 2 club Presidents to submit nominations.

2. Community Award - Only us, Rotarians from the Emmaus Club, can nominate a woman from the community for this Award.  You should have received the nomination information either at the November 21 or December 5 meetings if you were present and picked it up as they were circulated around the tables, or by US Mail if you were not there or did not pick it up.

The deadline for nominations is January 21.

If you have any questions about this Award, please do not hesitate to e-mail me or call me at my cell phone 610-392-5134.

Our Committee looks forward to receiving your nominations for the Community Award. Thank you for your support.

Yours in Rotary Service.
