ERC History Highlight
Did You Know...
Did you know that ERC has been a very active participant in the Rotary International Student Exchange Program (SEP)? The purpose of this program is to give high school students the opportunity to learn about another culture by going to a foreign country and attending school there for an entire school year or for a shorter summer stay. The way the program works is that each participating district sets up a committee to handle the selection of its outbound students and to receive inbounds from other countries all-the-while providing oversight and guidance for the students involved. Inbound students are expected to adhere to a set of rules regarding proper behavior during their stay. Normally we try to have 3 or 4 host families during the year. ERC received our first inbound student in 1965. It was my first year in high school and I remember that she was from Australia. It was very exciting having a student from another country spend the entire school year with us!! Our first outbound student was in 1967. In the years since ERC has sent and/or received hundreds of students from a wide variety of countries. Dee and I have had the opportunity to host 9 different inbounds over the years that I have been in Rotary. They have all been great experiences and I highly recommend that all of you consider being a host family or at least becoming involved in the program by offering to invite our exchange students to spend some time with you and your family.
