This week's informative narrative will be centered on Medical Marijuana.  This is a hot topic and we were lucky enough to have Steve Gould an "Expert" on the topic have one of his many influential friends join us to explain Pennsylvania's laws regarding the usage and purchase of this medical """Miracle""".  Keep an open mind and lets learn about the positive benefits to regular people and society as a whole.

On a much lighter note two weeks ago we spent a lot of time explaining how the club is doing.  Each committee had their chair explain where we are in the year long process.  However, one of the areas we did not go over is our budget.  So for a few seconds I would like to explain our checking account balances and where the monies are earmarked.
We have two checking accounts: one a regular club checking and one set aside to provide a scholarship endowment which is expected to be at $200,000 by our centennial (in 2026)to provide scholarship's for East Penn students into the future.  Presently there is Approx. $46,000 in the scholarship account.  The regular checking account is around $42,000.  The beef and Beer fund raiser will used to help grow that fund this Rotary year.
From this regular checking account we will have $20,050 ear marked to be spent for local and international projects.  Leaving just over $22,000 in the checking account and from that amount we will be spending over $5,000 for Polio Plus, Shelter Box and Food service projects.  Please understand that because we show a large amount in our balance at board meeting time but in essence we only have access to approximately of $17,000 which is not accounted for.   For prudent financial management it was suggested by our Financial committee that we should always carry a balance of at least $20,000 in our checking account at any given time.  I feel we are good stewards of our monies and the board is always open to looking at and or considering differing projects for the incoming President.  As always if you have any questions concerning the budget or our balances on file, please feel free to ask anyone on the executive committee or the treasurer.
Yours in Service
Rick Zayaitz

Be the Inspiration Day (s)
During "Be the Inspiration Day  (s), Rotarians fanned out to plant saplings for the Wildlands Conservatory, to cook and serve meals for the Rescue Mission, to  participate in a clean-up at Turning Point, to serve as safety marshalls for the Emmaus Halloween Parade, to pick up trash on Chestnut Street after the parade, and to be on the field and in the refreshment stand at LV Miracle League.
We hope to get a list of names and a total of hours spent in the community serving others as we wore our green "Emmaus Rotary Works" tee shirts and bright yellow safety vests.
Many thanks to Gary Guthrie, the Community Service Committee, all the individual event captains and to everyone for showed up-- to be an inspiration!

New Members -- Perfect Attendance
On Thursday October 18, 2018, Emmaus Rotary induced 3 new members and honored six others for perfect attendance. Past president and chair of the membership committee J P Raynock was director of ceremonies and he began the ceremony with group singing.

New members are Mike Zambelli  (J P Raynock sponsor), Joe Parks (Sal Verrastro sponsor) and Meghan Reed (Eric Loch sponsor).

Perfect attendance honorees included Alicia Ruiz-Orbin (1 year), Rick Zayaitz (1 year), Cindy Hornaman (2 years), Burt Duren (5 years), Dale Dries (46 years !) and Wilmer Schultz (66 years!!)

Schultz joined Rotary 2 weeks after Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne. That year 53,000 new cases of polio were recorded.

Hoping to Collect 200 Deodorants

Dear Rotarians,

It is the last week!!

We have collected 154 deodorants and this is our last week to reach our optimum goal of 200 for the Angel Network.  I will be delivering our contribution to Holy Spirit Church on November 12th. I want to thank all of you who have made contributions to this drive. We are working with the Angel Network again to provide Baskets for families of East Penn School District.  In the past, we have collected tuna, soup, dish detergent, and pasta.

Every year when we do this I am amazed at the support of our club and proud to be a member of the best club in the Lehigh Valley!

Making up missed Meetings -- How to
 get credit

Making Up Emmaus Rotary Club Meetings 10/3/18

How to earn a Perfect Attendance Pin each Rotary year [July 1 through June 30]

If you have to miss a regular weekly meeting of our Club, you can make up for that absence within 14 days before or after the meeting by following the options described below. Members do not have to make up for times when our Club does not meet.

How to Make Up a Meeting at Another Club

You can get credit for attending the meeting of another Rotary Club, anywhere in the world. It’s easy. Here are the steps:

Identify another club you would like to attend and find out when and where it meets.

To get meeting locations, times and days of the week clubs meet around the world, consult the Rotary International web site, www.rotary.org, and click on the “Club Finder” button near the top of the screen. Or download the app ‘Rotary Club Locator’.

When you arrive at the meeting place of the club you are visiting, ask for a makeup card to verify your attendance at the meeting. You should expect to pay the cost of your meal at that club meeting.

At the next meeting of our Club, give the makeup card to our Club Secretary or just mail it to the Club Secretary. If you fail to obtain a card, our Secretary will accept your word; just give a written report/email when and where you made up the meeting.

NOTE: If you attempt to make up a meeting at another club and find that for some reason the club is not meeting at its regular place and time, you can still be credited with a makeup. Just explain the situation to the Club Secretary in writing.

There are other ways of making up a meeting, too:

Attending a Rotary International or District Convention, assembly, or District committee meeting.

Attending a Board meeting of our Club, or formal Club Committee meeting.

Attending and participating in a board-authorized Club service project or a Club-sponsored community event or meeting, excluding social events like pancake suppers, hockey events, etc.

Attending e-club meetings. E-clubs are on-line meetings/makeup opportunities that don’t involve attending an online meeting but usually involve up to an hour of reading/writing and typically a fee similar to what we pay for an ERC meeting. E-clubs can be found online and some examples are:

https://www.rotaryeclubone.org

http://www.rotaryeclub34.org/ < includes a list of e-clubs under the tab E-club Links

https://portal.clubrunner.ca/8529

https://rotaryeclubofworldpeace.org/request-membership/meetings/makeup-meeting/

It is the member’s responsibility to keep track of their meeting makeups and be sure someone sent the Secretary their makeup information. The Club Secretary records makeups received every week but is not responsible to monitor which meetings members have missed.
