President's Message
“If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.”
- Napoleon Hill

Service above self is a nice slogan but how does that translate into action for each of us?  This weekend I met some very nice people who volunteered in Emmaus to transfer 23 dogs transported here from a rural Georgia shelter to a van going to Rochester, NY where the dogs are already matched with recipients who will give them their Forever homes…yay!  This wasn’t a Rotary sponsored activity, but it was still good people who feel a calling to help rescue dogs that would otherwise have been put down but will now go to families where there aren’t enough dogs.

The process to make this happen speaks well of the many people involved [including my sister Elain Brown who I am very proud of for her part in this effort]  who take in the dogs, process them, give them medical attention, do the necessary paperwork, connect with other shelters, monetarily support the transport, maintain the shelter, facilitate the transfers, walk the dogs at the transfer point, etc. that makes this happen almost monthly….truly amazing but in the grand scheme of things really very small but so very important to help us make this world a bit better than the way we found it.

So, my point is that I want to thank all our members who do so many things outside of Rotary that benefit our society that we may never know about…thank you, thank you, thank you!

Last week's meeting snipits
Another fun meeting activity.

What a great Fellowship meeting we had last week!  Thanks to Meghan Reed and her Fellowship Committee for organizing a FUN and worthwhile service type meeting.  We put special messages in books for children in the Allentown School District.  These books might be the only Christmas gift they receive.

U.S. Flags for Christmas

A big thanks to all Rotarians who subscribed to our Flag program this year.  Renewal emails will go out around Jan. 1st if you paid by credit card this year.  If you paid by check you can send those in now using my store address;
EJLDJ
3370 Lehigh St.
Allentown, Pa. 18103

The annual fee for flags six times is still $49.00

Now is also a great time to think about gifting a Flag subscription for next year to a family member or friend living in the East Penn area or fairly close to the East Penn area.

Working together we can get to 500 plus flags and a great fundraiser to pursue our financial goals.

Yours in Rotary, Eric Loch, aka Diamond Man
We now take credit cards.😁
Credit cards will now be accepted for breakfast. If you wish to use your credit card for breakfast, just sign in at the sign-in table and then go to Eric Loch so he can process your card for you.  P.S.  I will be out all of February.

Xmas Trees To Fight Cancer

Rotarians doing good alert!

Karen Paules has a wonderful way to give back while celebrating tradition.

Starting on Black Friday for Friends and Family (that's you!) and then every Saturday between Thanksgiving and Christmas Karen will be offering 6 foot tall Christmas trees for the price of a donation to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley.  This year the trees have been donated, the ones planted aren't ready yet. 😊 Even if you use an artificial tree, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be here at the times listed on the flyer. Make a donation and get Santa pictures, for kids, adults and pets too!!

International Women's Day Celebration
Fellow Emmaus Rotarians,

As a follow up to the announcement I made at our club meeting last week regarding our Emmaus Club International Women's Day Celebration Awards, I would like to clarify that our club gives two Awards:  1) The Rotarian Award to a woman Rotarian from a Rotary Club in Areas 1 and 2 (the Lehigh Valley), and 2) the Community Award to a woman from the Lehigh Valley.

1. Rotarian Award - Only the Club President can nominate a Rotarian from their club; however, Rotarians from that club can make recommendations to the President.  A letter was mailed to all the Areas 1 and 2 club Presidents to submit nominations.

2. Community Award - Only us, Rotarians from the Emmaus Club, can nominate a woman from the community for this Award.  You should have received the nomination information either at the November 21 or December 5 meetings if you were present and picked it up as they were circulated around the tables, or by US Mail if you were not there or did not pick it up.

The deadline for nominations is January 21.

If you have any questions about this Award, please do not hesitate to e-mail me or call me at my cell phone 610-392-5134.

Our Committee looks forward to receiving your nominations for the Community Award. Thank you for your support.

Yours in Rotary Service.

New Trumpet Editor
As we near the end of the calendar year, our illustrious Trumpet Editor Sal will be passing the reins to me.  Please start sending all items and reports for the Trumpet to DiamondMan@LochsJewelers.com. by Monday before the meeting.  Sal has done a fabulous job producing the Trumpet each week and I will attempt to do as good a job as he has done.
Cheers,
Diamond Man Eric
