I trust everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. Donna and I went to our house in the Virginia mountains for an extra long weekend visiting with our son and daughter-in-law and their friends. I also spent the better part of two days on the business end of a leaf blower clearing our yard and quarter-mile long driveway of this year’s leaf fall. Moving leaves is very different from my “day job” - it’s more labor intensive, but also provides loads of time for quiet thinking surrounded by natural beauty. I look forward to next year!
Two quick reminders about this week’s meeting:
#1: Our speaker will be Lisa Wolff from the Center for Humanistic Change. Lisa leads the Heroin and Opioid Prevention Education (HOPE) program for the Center. I suspect most of us have friends, family members or acquaintances who been affected by the opioid crisis in some way. I look forward to learning more from Lisa.
#2: The board of directors will meet immediately following Lisa’s presentation. Committee leaders: please be prepared to make a short report on the work of your teams (or forward a short summary to me before Thursday if you prefer). Of course, members are welcome to attend board meetings as guests anytime.
U.S. District Governors & Club Officers – Please share the following information with all your club members:
On 5 December 2017, at 1:00PM CST Rotary International’s Risk Management Team will be hosting a live informational webinar that will inform interested Rotarians about the U.S. Rotary Clubs & Districts Liability Insurance Program (“Program”) and how it relates to events your club is planning.
If you’ve wondered what a certificate of insurance is, this is a webinar for you! We will discuss the importance of contracts for Rotary events while also providing a walk-through of our new Insurance Broker’s dedicated Rotary insurance website, Gallagher Insight, to make sure you can find all of the necessary information easily.
As per my Happy Dollar on Thursday, November 9TH, I’m asking Emmaus Rotarians to save all types of “Tabs” from Soda, Beer, Soup, Sardine & other cans. Put them in anEnvelope or Plastic Bag, bring them to Thursday Morning Breakfast Meetings. Just give them to me at the meetings. Several of the Families at the Miracle League take their children to the A.I. Dupont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware for treatment. This hospital is for Children Only, similar to St. Jude & Shriner’s Hospitals. They treatchildren with serious Handicaps and Medical problems whether the families can Pay or Not. There is a Ronald McDonald House here, operated by the hospital. The Miracle League and other organizations collect the Tabs from all types of cans mentioned in the first sentence of this article. They are able to sell these Tabs to raise Funds to help operate the Ronald McDonald House. Last Year, they raised over $3,000 from the sale of these Tabs! This subtantially paid the cost of the Electric Utilities for the RMH. I and the Miracle League will appreciate your help in collecting these Tabs, that are usually just thrown away in the trash.
FINAL WEEK TO COLLECT THIS ITEMS! LETS MAKE IT A GOOD ONE!
This collection drive benefits Lily's Hope. Lily's Hope is an organization that packs baskets for NICU families for when their babies get to go home. Our own Rotarian, John Kunes, helped create this great cause with his daughter, Jennifer. Attached you will find a list of various items that are needed for the baskets. We will collect these items until the 12/21 meeting. If you have any questions, let Nicole Steirer know
Check the list below to see if you are scheduled to serve as Greeter & Raffle, Sign-in Table, Invocation or EREY.
If you will not be at the meeting when you have an assignment, please arrange for another member to swap with you or cover for you. NOTE-CHANGES MAY BE MADE FROM PREVIOUS TRUMPETS.
Thank you for taking your turn and helping Emmaus Rotary Club run a smooth meeting.
