President's Message

What an incredible display of sustainable service to humanity this past week. Thank you to not only the 16 members who received Paul Harris recognition for their significant contribution to the foundation, but to all who have and continue to support the Rotary Foundation. It changes lives and will do so for as long as humanity has the heart to make a difference.

As it's the first Thursday of the month, we will be collecting food for the needy. Please bring non-perishable food items that will be donated to East Penn families.

I look forward to seeing you this Thursday morning.

⁃ Jeff A. McElhaney Jr.

Paul Harris Ceremony

This past week we witnessed an historical event for the Emmaus Rotary Club. 16 Paul Harris awards were given out to members of our club. Certainly monumental if not historical. As you can see from the pictures of the breakfast there were 9 new Paul Harris award recipients, and 7 who added to there continuing support of the Rotary Foundation. Jim Palmquist and Bill Erdman explained what the Foundation is all about. Jim presented a short video from Rotary International on Peace and an initiative for Rotarians interested in creating peace in our world today. Please see Jim if you are interested in helping find ways to make our world a more peaceful place to live. Bill did an outstanding job getting the ceremony together and with the help of Jim and Cindy Hornaman our future district Governor, placed pins and medallions on each of the new Paul Harris Awardees. A proud moment for the Emmaus Rotary club. If you have any questions regarding Paul Harris awards or how you can become a Paul Harris recipient please see Bill or Jim. They will be very interested in explaining how you can become a foundation contributor(everyone can start with EREY {Every Rotarian Every Year}).

Interact Students Compete in Four Way Test Speech Contest

Max Hafner and Ben Brown, Emmaus High School Interact Club students,

participated in Emmaus Rotary Club¹s Four-Way Speech Contest on March 23,

2017. The contest provided Interact students with the opportunity to

write and deliver persuasive speeches that exemplify Rotary¹s Four-Way

Test:

First - is it the truth

Second - is it fair to all concerned

Third - will it build goodwill and better friendships

Fourth - will it be beneficial to all concerned

Both students were awarded monetary prizes by the Emmaus Rotary Club. Max

was the overall winner who will present his speech at Rotary¹s Regional

Speech Contest on Saturday, April 22.

Pasta Collection a True Success!!!!

Thank You… Thank You… Thank You… Thank You…

Our final collection on Thursday brought our total Pasta collection to 188. We also collected 90 boxes of macaroni and cheese. Once again Rotary Works!

Rotary Leader Ship Institute This Past Weekend!!

Join Leaders, Exchange Ideas, (Learn to) Take Action

Fellow Rotarians –

Rotary offers an opportunity for all of us to provide service to our community and throughout the world. RLI provides a learning experience that enhances Service Above Self in the areas of leadership, team building, planning, marketing, communication and organization. Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) enriches that learning through sharing experiences and ideas with other Rotarians throughout our district and region. RLI will strengthen your club and strengthen your Rotary life.

Last Saturday April 1, 2017, three of our own Emmaus Rotarians traveled to suburbia Philadelphia in the wee hours of the morning. Burt Duren, Gary Rohrbach and Steve Gould made the trip with one other Allentown Rotarian and incoming President Barb Bottitta. It was a fantastic day and very insightful. Everyone agreed every Rotarian could use some RLI. Many ideas and motivation to move mountains were created from Saturday's RLI event.
