Every Rotarian has heard of Paul Harris, the Chicago Lawyer, who founded Rotary with three friends in 1905. His vision is what we support today. This week is our Emmaus Rotary Paul Harris Award Ceremony. ALL ROTARIANS PLEASE WEAR THEIR PAUL HARRIS MEDALLIONS.Recognition of Paul Harris Fellow Rotarians is something we do at least two times a year. Remember when you give your $5 to EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year -- giving $100 toward the Rotary Foundation) every week? When that amount accumulates to $1,000 any Rotarian can be rewarded with a Paul Harris Medallion. Below is a short history of the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Reward. Please continue your support of the Emmaus Rotary EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year) when you sign in in the morning.
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of US$1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. It was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships.
At a time when every fifth child is facing food insecurity, please remember to bring grocery items to this week's meeting. Rotarian Ralph Lewis will staff the collection and take your items to the food pantry at Bethel Church which is supported both ecumenically and by local service organizations. And if you forget to bring a jar of peanut butter or a can of soup, you can still contribute by putting a dollar or two in the conveniently located basket on tne sign-in table.
MIRACLE LEAGUE HALLOWEEN BASH / WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24TH
The Annual Miracle League Halloween Bash last Wednesday Night was successful. We estimated that there 450+ Children & Parents attending. The weather was cold & No Rain. A Big Thank You To The Emmaus Rotary Club Volunteers…John Chisca, Bob Rust, Ceil Birdsell, Don & Wanda Blose, Tony Moyer, Chris Hornaman, Joanne Smida, Bob Halsey & the Interact Students from EmmausHS. The Refreshment Stand was very busy selling Hot Dogs, Pretzels, Pop Corn, Soda, Water, Hot Chocolate (150-Cups), Coffee (100-Cups) & Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies. The Interact Club, with Tony Moyer passed out the Trick or Treat Candy, Pretzels & Potato Chips to the Children. They also had several Sporting Events the Children could participate in, including a 1-Hole Golf Course & a Bowling Alley. We will be giving a Check for $638.02 to Miracle League from sales at the Refreshment Stand.
We have collected 154 deodorants and this is our last week to reach our optimum goal of 200 for the Angel Network. I will be delivering our contribution to Holy Spirit Church on November 12th. I want to thank all of you who have made contributions to this drive. We are working with the Angel Network again to provide Baskets for families of East Penn School District. In the past, we have collected tuna, soup, dish detergent, and pasta.
Every year when we do this I am amazed at the support of our club and proud to be a member of the best club in the Lehigh Valley!
I wanted to say to all that volunteered last weekend...Thank you! Without the support of so many Rotarians, Be the Inspiration Day would not have been possible.
