The Emmaus Rotary Club recently dedicated a lovely park bench to the Wildlands Conservancy Black River Sanctuary! After the ribbon cutting, our group took a guided hike thanks to Mike from Wildlands! Karen Hobson pushed us to go to the top of the summit! It was a fun afternoon of fellowship, exercise and nature!
For those unfamiliar with the significance of this bench, our Rotary Club participated in the NexTrex Recycling Challenge by collecting 1000 pounds of soft plastic within a year. The reward was a bench made from recycled plastic. We wanted to share it with the Black River Sanctuary so that hikers enjoying the beauty and benefits of nature can rest and reflect. We are really proud of how our Club and friends of Rotary came together to accomplish keeping plastic bags, film, bubble wrap and packing out of landfills and wildlife. It is indeed important to recognize that small actions shape a lasting world as Emmaus Rotary Celebrates a century of service.
A big thank you to Rotarian Michael Irwin of Vinyl Press Signs and Graphics for your help in making such a nice plaque for our bench!!
Since the first challenge was such a success, we are collecting another 1000 pounds and 1/2 way to our second bench!
