Weekly President's Message

Greetings fellow Rotarians,

Thanks for a great showing last week in spite of the chilly temperatures.  It was great to see you all but I'm on the road again and will miss you this week.  So, Nelly is getting plenty of practice for her year.  I will be back next week.
Please give her your support and guidance.
Now that the Eagles are in the Super Bowl tell all your friends how they can make money with our SuperBowl cards.  I believe Garry only has about 30 slots left.  Thank you, Gary, for all your help on this.
Remember to give Shirley and Cindy a warm welcome as our newest Members.
As you go about your day today, remember to do one act of kindness, which ties into our motto of Service Above Self.

What is the Rotary 4 Way Speech Contest?

One of the world's most widely quoted statements is Rotary's 4-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor. Every year Rotary districts around the world sponsor high school 4-Way Test contests. The purpose of the speech is to persuade others while applying the principles of the Rotary 4-Way Test.

Our ERC Contest will take place at Willow Lane Elementary School on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 10 AM.  Contestants are still able to enter the contest!

The North Region Contest will also take place at Willow Lane Elementary School on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 10 AM.

Feel free to join us at both contests!

Meet Emmaus Rotarian Kwinn Christopher!

Kwinn joined Rotary because she was looking for a sense of community. Rotary gatherings made her smile!

She finds great joy in plants, trees, and nature!

Super Bowl Pool

It is time for our annual Emmaus Rotary Club Super Bowl Pool.  Super Bowl LIX is just around the corner. This Pool gives you a chance to be a Super Bowl Winner and support Emmaus Rotary Club's food program. All proceeds are used for our food program that has been distributing food to students of the East Penn School District.

You can purchase one square for $50 and if your square matches one of the end of quarter scores or end of game score you will win!  Win Money!  More importantly all proceeds will be used to keep our food program going.

The Super Bowl board will be laid out in a 10 x 10 grid.  We will collect money for the squares up to the day before the big game on February 9th, 2025.

Payment:

Gary Guthrie will be accepting electronic payment through Venmo or QR-code below.  You can share the QR-code with your friends, family and co-workers. You can also give Gary cash or check at any Rotary Meeting.  Please make checks payable to ERC Foundation. Checks can be mailed to Embassy Bank, c/o Gary Guthrie, 180 W. Main St, Macungie, PA  18062. Email Gary when you send payment with your name, email address, and number of squares purchased, so that we know to add you to the board.

PAYOUTS:
End of quarters (1st, 2nd, & 3rd) matching score will win $250 (NEW Bonus: Left & Right of SCORE will win $50.)

End of Game matching score will win $500 (NEW Bonus: Left & Right of SCORE will win $100.)

EXAMPLE: Sample Board attached
Your square is Tampa 7 – Kansas 0
If the score at the end of the 1st quarter is Tampa 17 – Kansas 10  ( it is the last digit of the score that is used), then you are the winner of the 1st quarter prize.  If you square is  to the Left or the Right of Tampa -0 & Kansas -7  you win the Left & Right score prize.

We need to sell 100 squares to make this happen so please telling your friends, family and co-workers.

When all 100 squares are sold, we will randomly enter everyone's names on to the board. Next, we will select the team representing the NFC or AFC team and place them on the two axes of the board. Lastly, we will randomly select and place 0 through 9 for both axes. Once this has been completed the board will be emailed to all participants.

NexTrex Recycling Challenge

Linda Friedman (left), owner of Avanta Staregies, an expert in design, leadership, and personal development, was our guest speaker at our ERC meeting on January 23.
Dear Rotarians!

We know you love a challenge Emmaus Rotarians!  So we've signed up for the NexTrex Recycling Challenge.

The goal: Collect 1000lbs of soft plastic that would otherwise end up in a landfill by April 1, 2025.

The Reward: NexTrex will give Emmaus Rotary a park bench made from recycled plastic that we can use wherever we want!
The Plan: There will be multiple places to contribute your collected soft plastics. Meghan Reed and Ron Beitler are designated members to make drop offs and submit weigh ins at drop off locations.

1) Bring your plastic to an ERC Night Shift Meeting (the 3rd Wed. of every month at Rising River 5:30pm)

2) Bring it to a Morning Meeting and give to Meghan Reed.  (Please give me a full bag of collected plastic. Not a few items at a time)

3) Bring it to Eric J. Loch Diamond Jewelers (3370 Lehigh St. Allentown.)

The Details: IT IS IMPORTANT WE FOLLOW THE GUIDLINES ON WHAT WE CAN COLLECT. WE WILL NOT TAKE ITEMS NOT ON THE GUIDLINES.

Contact Meghan Reed with questions or ideas on how we can increase our impact! Maybe you can become a collector at your business?

When: The Third Wednesday of the Month from 5:30pm -7:30pm, at Triple Sun Spirits Co. 518 Bank Street, Emmaus.

Doors open 5:30pm. Meeting begins 6:00pm. Meeting to end by 7:30pm.
