Community Service Chairperson, Gary Guthrie has sent this message....
Due to the timing of the pending snow the Borough of Emmaus is unable to use resources to prepare for the park clean up. The Borough Manager has cancelled the clean-up day at Community Park. He apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.
We are back on for raking leaves at the Knauss Homestead. Please bring your rakes, blowers, tarps, gloves, and Emmaus Rotary Works shirt to the Knauss Homestead. We will be starting at 9AM and should be done before noon.
I promise this is the last change... :)
Thanks,
Gary
Over the years, Emmaus Rotary has been one of the benefactors of Emmaus Community Park. Area residents were distressed to see how much damage was caused by the major flooding that occurred on Friday evening, November 2nd when between 3.5 and 5 inches of rain fell quickly in a 3-hour span. The ground was saturated, leaves clogged storm drains and local creeks overflowed. High School was hard hit and there were no classes for a week. Homeowners had to deal with flooded basements. Both Camp Olympic and Emmaus Community Park were swamped.
The Borough asked Emmaus Rotary to help with the park restoration. We were to clean the dirt and mud from the concession stand building of the pool, spread new mulch on the playground, and do general clean up. Someone from the Borough Works Department was to be there to guide us. The forecast of a snow event derailed those plans. Below are some recent photos of the park.
Thursday, November 8, 2018, Rotarian Valerie Deneen led her fellow Rotarians in a "Thank-a-thon". After giving recent research showing the value of handwritten thank you notes, Deneen laid out her foolproof method for easy writing. Her scheme is just three sentences...the first is in the past tense ("It was so good to see you last week."), for the second sentence use the immediate and specific present tense ("Thank you for your program suggestions."), and a final third sentence in the future tense ("I look forward to working with you this Rotary year.")
Deneen then asked those present to write a thank you note to one of ERC's sponsors, partners or past speakers. Our club president is pictured above writing one note. And below, Deneen is mailing all those notes.
Thank you, Valerie! And thanks to all who participated.....
Monday we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Veteran's Day. A day in which we thank all Veterans for their service to our country. I would like to thank each and every one of the Emmaus Rotarians that have served in any of our armed forces, we are ever grateful for the sacrifice you have made and ever thankful for all you have contributed to your families, friends and co-workers.
Next week we will celebrate "Thanksgiving". Please remember to be thankful for our armed service people that go beyond normal limits to keep us safe and free. Be thankful for family, friends, and members of our families that have led the way for us to be the people we have become today. We can all be thankful for the love bestowed upon us by our families and friends.
Keep all in your prayers this festive season and continue to live the "Four-Way test" in our daily lives. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and I look forward to seeing everyone this Thursday for breakfast. Please remember we will not be meeting on Thanksgiving Thursday nor will there be a Trumpet next week. We all are looking forward to the next issue of the Trumpet on the 28th of November. If you are traveling be safe and enjoy!!!
Eileen Prokop reports that Emmaus Rotary exceeded our goal and collected 213 deodorants which she delivered to the EHS Angel Network to be included in their Thanksgiving baskets for families in our school district. Prokop expressed thanks to all who contributed.
Semi-annual invoices for dues went out to all members. They are to be paid by December 15th.
At the sign in desk, there will be a stack of paper invoices and return address envelopes if you want to use a paper copy. If you have questions or concerns, please speak to me.
