Presentation by Cathy Rychalsky: the Workforce Board Lehigh Valley

Last Thursday, we welcomed Cathy Rychalsky, Executive Director of Workforce Board Lehigh Valley, who talked to use about workforce development and the challenges and opportunities facing today's labor market. Cathy brings more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit and government leadership and has dedicated her career to helping individuals develop skills, connect with employment opportunities, and achieve economic success.

During her presentation, Cathy highlighted the important role Workforce Board Lehigh Valley and PA CareerLink® play in connecting people with training, education, and career opportunities while helping businesses find and retain qualified talent. She emphasized the need for partnerships among schools, employers, community organizations, and workforce agencies to prepare the next generation for a rapidly changing economy. Cathy's commitment to building a stronger, more resilient workforce left attendees with a deeper appreciation for the programs and partnerships that help our community thrive.

Correction to last week's STEM YEA article

Last week's STEM YEA article reverted to previous week's article (and all the details were lost). Here is an overview of our fabulous STEM YEA program. Thanks to our volunteers including Len, Gary, Dee, Alicia and Tony!

STEM YEA (STEM Youth Explorer Academy) is a unique, local Rotary-sponsored residential program that introduces middle school students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through immersive, hands-on learning experiences. Hosted at Kutztown University and supported by Rotary District 7430, the academy brings together students from across southeastern Pennsylvania for several days of exploration, teamwork, and discovery. The curriculum, developed in partnership with the SETI Institute, challenges students to investigate real-world scientific questions and to build projects together. They rely on critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Len Reed (a fellow Emmaus Rotarian and teacher) gave an overview of his experience volunteering for the program. This was his first year and he plans to return.

Len interviewed three students we sent to Kutztown. They all said they enjoyed staying overnight at the university (it was the first time for some), learned a lot and would recommend the program to others.

Happy Birthday!
