President's Message
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

Wow, what a crazy time of the year for so many people and families.  Making it even more difficult are the numerous spinoff complications of a worldwide pandemic that continues to generate consequences like riding the wake of a speeding motorboat!  In the midst of this I still believe that this is a wonderful season of giving and that what we do as Rotarians isn’t just in December but actually year-round.  This was evident last week when we donated $6,000 to the Tails of Valor foundation…a really wonderful organization that helps veterans acquire service dogs as they deal with PTSD or brain injuries.  But, beyond the monetary gifts we also give our time like at the Emmaus Triangle where Nicole and Karen facilitated the Letters to Santa program again….the faces of those children in the pictures were PRICELESS!  We also did over 100 service hours during the Make a Different Days in October and we have six fundraising efforts that will support the food distribution program that Cindy and Rick facilitate, scholarship dollars for deserving EHS students, money for the Juxtahub arts center, Shelterbox, End Polio, and so many other yearly initiatives…well done Emmaus Rotary.

So, as your President, I thank all of you for your generous giving again this year in time, talents and treasure.  You are the BEST and I am honored to be a small, humble part of what we do to help so many others locally and globally.  Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year all of you and your families.

Club Community Service Meeting This Week

This is the season for giving, and making a person feel appreciated and loved.  This week we have the opportunity to do just that for 100 children.

Emmaus Rotary has a collection of children's books that we will pull 100 books from to be donated to the Cops And Kids Reading Program.  At this meeting each Rotarian in attendance will be given a few books and specially printed Rotary bookmarks (courtesy of Michael Irwin, Vinyl Press Signs and Graphics). We will write words of encouragement to the Children of Roosevelt Elementary School in Allentown. On December 17th Cops and Kids will be holding a holiday book giving event at which First Responders and Santa will hand out books to students. For many of these kids this donated book will be their only Christmas gift.  The gift of reading can change lives.

Please be sure to attend and if you have any books you'd like to contribute for readers ages 5-11, please bring them along! Our 100 books will be complied with donations coming from other service organizations and the community.

Contact Meghan Reed with questions.
Last week's meeting snipits
We were presented with an awesome program to help new businesses and existing ones through Rotary.  Derrick outlined how the program works and the obstacles faced and conquered by new start-ups.  Rick Zayaitz and Mario Cozubbo are working from our Club to move this program forward.

U.S. Flags for Christmas

A big thanks to all Rotarians who subscribed to our Flag program this year.  Renewal emails will go out around Jan. 1st if you paid by credit card this year.  If you paid by check you can send those in now using my store address;
EJLDJ
3370 Lehigh St.
Allentown, Pa. 18103

The annual fee for flags six times is still $49.00

Now is also a great time to think about gifting a Flag subscription for next year to a family member or friend living in the East Penn area or fairly close to the East Penn area.

Working together we can get to 500 plus flags and a great fundraiser to pursue our financial goals.

Yours in Rotary, Eric Loch, aka Diamond Man
We now take credit cards.😁
Credit cards will now be accepted for breakfast. If you wish to use your credit card for breakfast, just sign in at the sign-in table and then go to Eric Loch so he can process your card for you.  P.S.  I will be out all of February.

Xmas Trees To Fight Cancer

Rotarians doing good alert!

Karen Paules has a wonderful way to give back while celebrating tradition.

Starting on Black Friday for Friends and Family (that's you!) and then every Saturday between Thanksgiving and Christmas Karen will be offering 6 foot tall Christmas trees for the price of a donation to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley.  This year the trees have been donated, the ones planted aren't ready yet. 😊 Even if you use an artificial tree, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be here at the times listed on the flyer. Make a donation and get Santa pictures, for kids, adults and pets too!!

International Women's Day Celebration
Fellow Emmaus Rotarians,

As a follow up to the announcement I made at our club meeting last week regarding our Emmaus Club International Women's Day Celebration Awards, I would like to clarify that our club gives two Awards:  1) The Rotarian Award to a woman Rotarian from a Rotary Club in Areas 1 and 2 (the Lehigh Valley), and 2) the Community Award to a woman from the Lehigh Valley.

1. Rotarian Award - Only the Club President can nominate a Rotarian from their club; however, Rotarians from that club can make recommendations to the President.  A letter was mailed to all the Areas 1 and 2 club Presidents to submit nominations.

2. Community Award - Only us, Rotarians from the Emmaus Club, can nominate a woman from the community for this Award.  You should have received the nomination information either at the November 21 or December 5 meetings if you were present and picked it up as they were circulated around the tables, or by US Mail if you were not there or did not pick it up.

The deadline for nominations is January 21.

If you have any questions about this Award, please do not hesitate to e-mail me or call me at my cell phone 610-392-5134.

Our Committee looks forward to receiving your nominations for the Community Award. Thank you for your support.

Yours in Rotary Service.
