Join us as we welcome John “Doc Zog” Hartzog, a local legend in education and trivia, as our upcoming speaker at the Emmaus Rotary Club.

Born in Weatherly, PA, John is a graduate of Bloomsburg State and a retired teacher from the East Penn School District, where he taught at Eyer Junior High/Middle School from 1971 to 2006. His passion for education and dedication to his students earned him national recognition when he was selected as a 2004 Disney-Hand Teacher Honoree, one of only 39 educators chosen from over 150,000 nominees.

Beyond the classroom, John is best known as the master of trivia. His love for trivia began in 1967 at Bloomsburg State College and grew into a lifelong passion. He has been organizing trivia contests since 1974, including Doc Zog’s Super Bowl of Trivia, which once drew 32 teams in 1987, making it the largest trivia contest on the East Coast. His trivia expertise has been showcased on WKAP, WSAN, WAEB, and at the Trexlertown and Lehigh Valley Malls, even featuring special guests like the Phillies Phanatic. A personal highlight of his career was hosting a radio show where he interviewed Clayton Moore, the original Lone Ranger, live from his home.

At 75, John is still going strong, continuing to bring people together through the power of trivia.
