Warning – A Deep Thought Ahead

Yogi Berra has had many memorable quotes attributed to him and one of them is “it was déjà vu all over again”. I’m not sure whether Yogi said this, but it happened to me twice in a very short period and both had the same theme. These déjà vu moments occurred at the viewing for Wilmer Schultz in December and then most recently for Sal’s mom, Elizabeth. In both situations I entered the area where the family was waiting for us to pay our respects and there were beautiful poster boards full of pictures showing the family, friends, travel, smile, happiness, and the joy of relationships during the departed’s lifetime. I stopped to look at the boards and, in both situations, thought about what I want to be on my picture board at my funeral…yes, a bit maudlin maybe and certainly a random deep thought for me.
This was followed by a recollection of many years ago when the administrators in the EPSD all had to read and discuss the Stephen Covey book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. The only habit I remember is Begin with the End in Mind and I’ve used that many times when working on projects whether at home, work or Rotary. Well, Begin with the End in Mind doesn’t get much more finite than our last days on earth so let’s all think about what we want on our final poster board to look like and most importantly, make it happen! That’s my very random very deep thought for you this week
