“Sometimes you just need to talk to a 4-year-old and an 84-year-old to understand life again.”

I mentioned to Linda that it’s Rotary’s Peace and Conflict Prevention/Conflict Resolution month and she immediately reminded me of the Sandra Bullock World Peace piece in Miss Congeniality with William Shatner at the beauty pageant where she’s an undercover police officer. I laugh every time I see this piece but there’s a bit of truth to it…why can’t we all just get along? As we watch the news, we once again see aggression playing out on the world stage over which we as individuals have no control, but we do have control of what we do in our day to day family and work relations. I’m also reminded of the song we sang a few weeks ago, Let there be Peace on Earth and Let it begin with Me, and how that message can’t be heard too many times.
So, let’s make collective resolutions to be nice to each other for the month of February. How you say, well, as a wise person recently said in one of our meetings, I have two ears and one mouth for a reason…maybe listen more and speak less? How about trying to find the good in other people and dwell on that, not their failings? Or is the glass half full or half empty in some situations? Let’s find common ground not battlefields to fight on. And, of course, Go Forth and Do Good!
