Irv Keister, born and raised in Harrisburg, spoke to the Emmaus Rotary on Thursday, September 20, 2018,
about his family, his work and his many volunteer activities.

During his 36 years at PP&L, Keister helped establish
the 811 call number for contractors and pioneered early work on the development of electric cars with GM.  He was on
a special teaching and mentoring assignment in Egypt in 2000 and he got to see the pyramids and ride a camel
(which is not an experience he recommends for bucket lists!). The following year, he was with the same  20 Muslilm
students who were on a reciprocal visit to the USA. They were meeting together at the Hilton Hotel
on 9th and Hamilton when the attacks of 9-11 occurred.
In addition to his volunteer work, Keister spends time with his four granddaughters. He is a recent widower
as his beloved wife Diane died earlier this year. He thanked Bob Rust for encouraging him to visit Emmaus Rotary.
