“Be thankful for what you have. Your life, no matter how bad you think it is, is someone else's fairy tale.”
– Wayne Ayeni
So, how big is Rotary? Yes, we all know that there are 35,000 clubs and 1.2 million members worldwide, but, so what…how does that help me as a member in Emmaus, PA? Well, here are two examples – a few years ago I was on a quest to finally sort out the Waddell family genealogy which is strongly Scots-Irish. We had a trip planned to Ireland and County Down was where I believed Waddell ancestors had lived so I used the Club Locator function, found clubs in the County Down area, emailed all the club presidents with Waddell related questions and got several nice emails back and lots of invitations to join them for their meetings if the timing worked [unfortunately, it didn’t] but no related Waddells.
The other example is a bit more personal. As you know our daughter, Jennifer, lives in Barcelona, Spain. She owns a very nice apartment but decided she wanted a “side hustle” so she bought a 4 bedroom apartment about 2 hours north of Barcelona and close to the French border. She wants to rent it out to local hikers because of trails in the area but it needs some work. When we talked, I suggested finding a Rotarian in the area. So, once again I went onto the Club Locator, found the club President closest to her property, emailed him [Josep Navio ] and got a very nice response that led to them meeting last week and his very gracious offer to help her. It was just dumb luck that he is in the contracting business and knows all the contractors in the area! However, what impressed Jen and me most was that there was no hesitation about helping a Rotarian’s child even though we have never met even though I will certainly make that happen when we visit in the future.
This true, unconditional Service Above Self is something special that not everyone can embrace which is why it is so important to bring those people into Rotary when we do find them at work, school, church, or in other organizations. Remember, we are all Finders so keep looking and Finding those good people who will help our Club and Rotary worldwide.
This is a great time to bring guests to Rotary especially women. We do need a number for Brookside so let Sal know ASAP how many guests you will be bringing.
P.S. This is a long worthwile program and the meeting will run a bit over 8:30.
Please mark your calendars for a very special presentation on March 10th, as we celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day award winners.
Our Rotary Woman’s award will go to Gwen Carr, a long-time Rotarian and advocate for many service projects.
Our Rotary Community award will go to Clarice James, the founder and director of the Allentown nonprofit M.I.R.A (Migrant, Immigrant, Refugee and Asylee).
This is always an inspiring event and will be again this year as we celebrate our awardees and listen to their stories.
Saturday March 5th was time to recognize Foundation donors in our District. Cindy and her Team put together a grand experience. Our Club and numerous of our Club Members were recognized for their contributions to the Foundation.
To learn more about the Foundation, reach out to Bill Erdman or any Member that you see wearing a Paul Harris pin.
We were presented with an awesome program to help new businesses and existing ones through Rotary. Derrick outlined how the program works and the obstacles faced and conquered by new start-ups. Rick Zayaitz and Mario Cozubbo are working from our Club to move this program forward.
This is the last week. Let's pile it on for Eileen! We are once again partnering with the Angel Network to collect items for their basket give-aways. Rotary is going to collect Bar Soap and Toothpaste this year.
Please bring items to a meeting. We will be collecting items until our March 31st meeting.

In 2018 We started collecting the Tabs from all types of cans Soda, Beer, Seltzer, Tuna Fish, Sardines, Soup Cans, Etc. In 2018 we were able to deliver Five Full One Gallon Jugs of Tabs…Last year, 2019 we were able to deliver Three Full One Gallon Jugs of Tabs. So far this year 2020 we now have One Full One Gallon Jugs. I would hope we can again this year, 2020, can fill at least another Five Full One Gallon Jug OR MORE. I turn these into the Miracle League in the Middle of October, right before Halloween. They turn them into the Dupont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington Delaware. Other organizations also collect these Tabs, in total the Hospital has been able sell these for enough Money to pay 75% of the Utilities Cost in their Ronald House, where Families to stay at a very Nominal Cost when their Handicapped Children need to go for Treatment. You can bring Tabs every Thursday to our regular Breakfast Meetings.

Many of us help with other organizations to raise funds for great causes. If you wish to mention your outside fund raising event at Rotary, just put up four Happy Dollars and let us know about what is going on. If I have a website link to your cause I will post it here.

As we progress through this Covid virus it is still important to protect those who are vulnerable to the virus. If you test positive for Covid within a few days of any Emmaus Rotary event please notify those who may have been in close contact with you and the Club President, so we can also reach out to those Members.
Thanks for your efforts in dealing with this virus.
