Update on the Wilmer Shultz Scholarship fund

Jeff McElhaney provided an encouraging update on the status of our scholarship fund, which has now grown to nearly $200,000. The interest generated from this investment directly supports Emmaus High School students, with recipients selected each year by our Youth Committee. The amount of scholarship and number of recipients (or years of receipt) can vary but the total gift is limited to the interest the fund generates.

Chris Wills also offered an overview of our club’s current financial position, ensuring members have a clear understanding of how our resources are being managed to support club initiatives.

A little background: Wilmer was a deeply influential figure in Emmaus, he founded a construction company that thrived for decades and is known for nearly seven decades of perfect attendance in the Emmaus Rotary Club.

A BEEutiful way to care for the environment!

Join Emmaus Rotary Club at Rising River Brewing Co. on Sunday, May 3, 2026 for a Pollinator House Workshop.
Learn about what pollinator houses do to help bees and other garden friendly insects create a healthy environment in your own backyard!
This workshop offers a short educational talk about pollinator houses. Then you will have the opportunity to create your own pollinator house.  Appropriate for all ages and family friendly!
This event is a fun family experience and the pollinator houses also make a great handmade gift idea!

Includes:  Pre-assembled pine wood house to paint and fill with pollinator friendly materials. Creative painting supplies and organic fill materials all included.  Families/groups may paint and fill a single house or purchase multiple houses.
Only $50.
Only 40 houses are available. Pre-registration is required. No refunds for no-show.

DID YOU ATTEND LAST YEAR and you don't need a whole new house to add to your collection yet? Awesome!  Restock your fill materials for this season. Your pollinators will thank you! ONLY $10 cash at the door for a refill bag. Get a friend to sign up for this year and your refill is FREE!

This workshop is a fundraiser to support the Emmaus Rotary Scholarship Foundation, Wilmer Schultz Service Above Self Scholarship; to benefit High School Seniors in the East Penn School District with continuing education.

THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT. IN THE CASE OF RAIN, WE WILL BE UNDER COVER.

Service Opportunities:

MAY 1 LOWER MACUNGIE COMMUNITY DAY
The community day is a very well attended event occurring MAY 1, 4-8pm. We need help at the Rotary table.  See Karen for more information.

Mission of Mercy in Pennsylvania, known as MOM-n-PA, is returning to the AgriPlex in the Allentown Fairgrounds again this year! This is a two-day free dental mission for our most vulnerable population, primarily those who cannot afford regular dental care.  The event will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 29th and 30th.

We are in need of volunteers to make this mission successful once again. The clinics run from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.  Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for a full day session if they can, or choose a half-day option.

Up to 500 lay volunteers are needed for positions such as Patient Ambassadors (escorting patients within the facility), Food Service (helping to serve food to our volunteers and some patients), Patient Registration, Translators (especially Spanish but others as well), and to monitor the patient waiting areas.

We are also in need of people who can physically volunteer to help with the clinic set up on Thursday, May 28th starting at 9:00 AM, or to help break down the equipment starting around 3:00 PM on Saturday.

Registration for volunteers is mandatory (no walk-ins) and volunteers must be 18 years old or older.

Please go to https://www.mom-n-pa.com/ for more information and to register for this event. Tell your friends and family!

Finally, if you cannot volunteer but wish to make a monetary donation to support this mission, please do so at the same website.  Our budget for this program is $250,000 to cover event space, rental equipment, food and dental supplies.  Any donation is truly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, and I hope to see you at this event!

Rotary founder Paul Harris was born on 19 April 1868 in Racine, Wisconsin, USA. Thanks to his extraordinary vision, Rotary members around the world remain united to this day by a shared sense of purpose and dedication to service.

Join us in celebrating the anniversary of Harris’ birth by learning about his life.

How else will you mark the occasion? You can give to the foundation or subscribe to this quarterly newsletter to get updates on the society and learn what’s new at the Foundation.
