Emmaus Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert
Emmaus Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert spoke to Rotary last Thursday. She served many years on Borough Council, including serving as vice president of council from 2008-2016 then president of council from 2010-2016, before being elected as the borough’s first female mayor in 2021.
As Emmaus mayor, she serves in a more limited executive role, where most day-to-day municipal operations are handled by the borough manager and council. As mayor, her primary responsibility is as chief law enforcement officer, overseeing the police department and maintaining public safety within the community. In this role, she has authority over police operations, including supervising the chief of police and supporting the hiring, training, and development of new officers to ensure a professional and effective force.
She detailed the long hiring process of officers (up to a year) and how it follows a structured civil service process, including testing, background checks, and eligibility lists to ensure qualified candidates are selected. The borough works in coordination with county and regional resources—such as shared training programs and law enforcement standards—to support recruitment, certification, and onboarding of officers into the department.
JUNE IS ROTARY FELLOWSHIPS MONTH!
Rotary Fellowships deepen connections beyond the club
Rotary Fellowshipsare international, that bring Rotarians together around shared hobbies, professions, or identities. From music and art to sports, history, and technology, fellowships help create a more connected global Rotary community — and offer meaningful ways to build friendships beyond your club. There are over 100 Rotary Fellowships
Rotary Fellowships help participants make lasting friendships outside their own club, district, or country. If you have questions about Rotary Fellowships, please contact our Emmaus Rotarian Alicia Ruiz-Orbin. You will find her e-mail address and phone number in our Club Directory in clubrunner.
