Meredith's Mantra

Yes, I know that our family members are all special but isn’t there always one that is just a tad more special in some special way?  Well, my special family member for just overall niceness is grand-daughter Meredith.  She is 9 and just one of the nicest people I’ve ever met…not only willing to help when she visits but actually asks if there’s anything she can do to help us!

One of her habits is writing something on our white note board in the kitchen whenever she is here.  It’s usually hearts or Make it a Nice Day, or I love you, but this time she wrote the note in the picture above.  I don’t know if she made this up or she saw it somewhere, but it perfectly represents the niceness in this little girl’s heart that is just naturally in her DNA and which I hope never leaves her.  The obvious question is, why can’t we all take this message to heart and just be kind to each other?  It’s an easy choice because, at least to me, being kind is much easier than being mean.  I’m sure that I could spend several paragraphs doing a psychological analysis of why kindness isn’t the norm in the world, but I’ll just say let’s follow Meredith’s mantra and choose to be kind every day to everyone we meet…I’m pretty sure that this is one of the many reasons why we are Rotarians. [Also, I'll teach her the difference between Were and Where sometime!]

Mark your calendar!!
International Women’s Day
This is a great time to bring guests to Rotary especially women.  We do need a number for Brookside so let Sal know ASAP how many guests you will be bringing.
P.S.  This is a long worthwile program and the meeting will run a bit over 8:30.
Please mark your calendars for a very special presentation on March 10th, as we celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day award winners.
Our Rotary Woman’s award will go to Gwen Carr, a long-time Rotarian and advocate for many service projects.
Our Rotary Community award will go to Clarice James, the founder and director of the Allentown nonprofit M.I.R.A (Migrant, Immigrant, Refugee and Asylee).

This is always an inspiring event and will be again this year as we celebrate our awardees and listen to their stories.

We were presented with an awesome program to help new businesses and existing ones through Rotary.  Derrick outlined how the program works and the obstacles faced and conquered by new start-ups.  Rick Zayaitz and Mario Cozubbo are working from our Club to move this program forward.

Time to earn our Angel Wings
This is the last week.  Let's pile it on for Eileen!  We are once again partnering with the Angel Network to collect items for their basket give-aways.  Rotary is going to collect Bar Soap and Toothpaste this year.

Bob Halsey's Keeping Tabs on Us!

Can Tabs For The Miracle League LV / Submitted By Bob Halsey

In 2018 We started collecting the Tabs from all types of cans Soda, Beer, Seltzer, Tuna Fish, Sardines, Soup Cans, Etc. In 2018 we were able to deliver Five Full One Gallon Jugs of Tabs…Last year, 2019 we were able to deliver Three Full One Gallon Jugs of Tabs. So far this year 2020 we now have One Full One Gallon Jugs. I would hope we can again this year, 2020, can fill at least another Five Full One Gallon Jug OR MORE. I turn these into the Miracle League in the Middle of October, right before Halloween. They turn them into the Dupont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington Delaware. Other organizations also collect these Tabs, in total the Hospital has been able sell these for enough Money to pay 75% of the Utilities Cost in their Ronald House, where Families to stay at a very Nominal Cost when their Handicapped Children need to go for Treatment. You can bring Tabs every Thursday to our regular Breakfast Meetings.

Rotary and BEYOND
Emmaus Rotarians truly do live a lifestyle of Service Above Self!
Many of us help with other organizations to raise funds for great causes.  If you wish to mention your outside fund raising event at Rotary, just put up four Happy Dollars and let us know about what is going on.  If I have a website link to your cause I will post it here.

Ex.  I support the PA. Perimeter Ride Against Cancer which benefits the American Cancer Society and Dream Come True.

Check out some of the great work our fellow members are doing in our community outside of Rotary and learn how you can support their efforts.
