President's Message
  ROTARY'S 6 AREAS OF CONCENTRATION

I have been in Rotary for over 8 years.  Something I learned at RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) was that Rotary has 6 main areas of focus.  The areas of focus are: Promoting peace, Providing clean water, Saving Mothers and Children, Supporting Education, Growing Local Economies, and Fighting Disease.  This week I will dedicate a few lines to Promoting peace.  The picture below is depicting one of the fastest growing areas of pain in the US……..Domestic Abuse.   We support Turning Point which is a Lehigh Valley organization with the goal of helping anyone in need who is or has been unfortunate enough to be abused by a spouse or family member.

Many Rotary organizations dedicate their fund-raising concerns to help people who suffer from domestic abuse.  If you would like more information about what Rotarians do around the world please go to myrotary.org  And if you are not signed up please sign up and learn about our global organization.

We have our major fundraiser coming up on Monday, October 15, 2018.   Please help wherever or however
you can, so we can continue our support of the 6 areas of focus, both locally and globally.  See you Thursday morning and then again on Monday, at Brookside Country Club for our annual golf Fundraiser.

Together we can help stop Domestic Abuse

Winners

Congratulations to the winners of this years golf tournament.  Mike Bower, Matt Conway, Pat Boyle & Joe Fenstermacher took the first place prize on a match of cards from a three way tie.
Brian Johnson was the lucky winner of The 2019 Masters Weekend.  Thank you Brian for your support.  We learned he purchased 9/$100 raffle tickets to improve his chances.  Looks like his theory paid off.  Kurt Cannon took 2nd prize with a nice piece of jewelry from Eric J. Loch Fine Diamonds and David Will took 3rd prize of a $500 Visa Gift Card.

Special Thanks

Many thanks to Michael Kuebler, General Manager, Robert and the Staff of Brookside Country Club for putting on a great event.  Also special thanks to Dave Fields, PGA and his staff, especially Ross, for keeping the event running so well.

Many Thanks to all of our sponsors and golfers for this years tournament, especially our Event Sponsor Ai Orthodontics.  Without the support of great people like Ai, we would not be able to have such a successful fundraiser.
See you next year!!!

Hoping to Collect 200 Deodorants

Dear Rotarians,

It is the last week!!

We have collected 154 deodorants and this is our last week to reach our optimum goal of 200 for the Angel Network.  I will be delivering our contribution to Holy Spirit Church on November 12th. I want to thank all of you who have made contributions to this drive. We are working with the Angel Network again to provide Baskets for families of East Penn School District.  In the past, we have collected tuna, soup, dish detergent, and pasta.

Every year when we do this I am amazed at the support of our club and proud to be a member of the best club in the Lehigh Valley!

Bring Canned Goods This Thursday

As Emmaus Rotary seeks new ways to help feed the hungry-- including planning for the summer as East Penn schools have 30% of students qualiying for free or reduced lunches-- remember our tried and true monthly food collection. THIS THURSDAY bring canned goods and staples to be collected at our regular morning meeting.

And if you are numbered among those who forgot to bring something from home, no problem...you can still contribute...drop a dollar bill or two in the rattan basket.

Thank you to all the Emmaus Rotarians who step up every month to support Bethel Bible Food PLUS Pantry, which is supported by other service organizations and ecumenically by area churches.

in Pennsylvania, 19% of children live in poverty. Their next meal is not assured especially on weekends, holidays and summers when there are no reduced or free school lunches.

Making up missed Meetings -- How to
 get credit

Making Up Emmaus Rotary Club Meetings 10/3/18

How to earn a Perfect Attendance Pin each Rotary year [July 1 through June 30]

If you have to miss a regular weekly meeting of our Club, you can make up for that absence within 14 days before or after the meeting by following the options described below. Members do not have to make up for times when our Club does not meet.

How to Make Up a Meeting at Another Club

You can get credit for attending the meeting of another Rotary Club, anywhere in the world. It’s easy. Here are the steps:

Identify another club you would like to attend and find out when and where it meets.

To get meeting locations, times and days of the week clubs meet around the world, consult the Rotary International web site, www.rotary.org, and click on the “Club Finder” button near the top of the screen. Or download the app ‘Rotary Club Locator’.

When you arrive at the meeting place of the club you are visiting, ask for a makeup card to verify your attendance at the meeting. You should expect to pay the cost of your meal at that club meeting.

At the next meeting of our Club, give the makeup card to our Club Secretary or just mail it to the Club Secretary. If you fail to obtain a card, our Secretary will accept your word; just give a written report/email when and where you made up the meeting.

NOTE: If you attempt to make up a meeting at another club and find that for some reason the club is not meeting at its regular place and time, you can still be credited with a makeup. Just explain the situation to the Club Secretary in writing.

There are other ways of making up a meeting, too:

Attending a Rotary International or District Convention, assembly, or District committee meeting.

Attending a Board meeting of our Club, or formal Club Committee meeting.

Attending and participating in a board-authorized Club service project or a Club-sponsored community event or meeting, excluding social events like pancake suppers, hockey events, etc.

Attending e-club meetings. E-clubs are on-line meetings/makeup opportunities that don’t involve attending an online meeting but usually involve up to an hour of reading/writing and typically a fee similar to what we pay for an ERC meeting. E-clubs can be found online and some examples are:

https://www.rotaryeclubone.org

http://www.rotaryeclub34.org/ < includes a list of e-clubs under the tab E-club Links

https://portal.clubrunner.ca/8529

https://rotaryeclubofworldpeace.org/request-membership/meetings/makeup-meeting/

It is the member’s responsibility to keep track of their meeting makeups and be sure someone sent the Secretary their makeup information. The Club Secretary records makeups received every week but is not responsible to monitor which meetings members have missed.

Register for "Purple Pinkie" Walk/Run

Dear District 7430 Rotarians,

Come and join us for 8th Yvette M. Palmer Purple Pinkie Race to Zero 5K Run/1 mile fun walks.   This year we have two events in different parts of our district so that many more of us can participate! The first was held on October 6th at DelVal in Doylestown. So we are now looking toward ---

Saturday, October 13, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Schnecksville, PA, 9:30 AM start

All Proceeds will be donated to Polio Plus and every Dollar Raised will be TRIPLED by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

To sign up for the race, or learn more, visit the website at www.purplepinkie.net.   You can either register online or mail in the registration form available on the website.

You don’t need to run to participate.  Most people walk!  It will be a fun event.  Bring your family and friends.  We will have awards for the race winners and also many drawings for door prizes, so both runners and walkers will be winners.  We will also have great food!  We will have members of the Pennsylvania Polio Survivors Network at both events to talk to participants about their experiences with polio.

Sign up Early to avoid the Cost Increase: The cost to participate is $25 ($15 if 17 and under) (includes tech T-shirt) before Sep 20.  After September 20 and on race day, the cost is $35 ($25 if 17 and under) (tech T-shirt only while supplies last).  Come on out and have a great time for a great cause!

Ask Others to Sponsor You: Help us raise much more money for Polio Plus by asking Rotarians and friends who can't attend to sponsor you.  Sponsor sheets and details are available on the Purple Pinkie website.  Any Rotarian that sponsors a runner/walker will get credit towards their Paul Harris.

Special prize basket for largest group running or walking together: Interact Clubs, Rotary Clubs, families, other organizations, sports teams.  If you have the largest number of folks walking or running in either Purple Pinkie event, you will receive a special prize basket for all to share!  Those who walk or run together will eliminate Polio together!

Questions: E-mail the Race Directors  Doylestown race: Kevin Crail (crailsrunning@gmail.com)   Schnecksville Race: John Scott (JonhScottL@msn.com).
