President's Message

Greetings everyone!

Well, what a fun meeting last week! Thanks to Valerie for finding a fun, fact filled speaker that “ENGAGED“
all of us. Bill Erdman awarded two more Paul Harris pins. Nelly received her six and seventh PH and Khervin received his third PH pin. Thanks to both of you for your commitment to supporting the Rotary
Foundation.

Now back to why I bolded and quoted “Engaged” earlier. Engaging members is one of Rotary’s main goals this year. The more we engage the more we see why we love Rotary with our other Rotary friends.

Why not reach out to a friend or neighbor and engage them to come to experience what our awesome Club and meetings are all about.

Meghan spread the great news this past weekend that we have reached our goal of 1000lb. of soft plastic. Way to go to all the Rotarians and non-Rotarians that made this project happen. I think it is only fitting that Meghan chooses where the bench will be placed. Congratulations Meghan!

See ya Thursday!

The Prez.

P.S. I know lots of us travel and miss meetings, but you can always check in with us on Zoom while sipping your morning coffee, tea, orange juice, or favorite adult beverage depending on your time zone. See the

Zoom meeting notes below.

WE DID IT!

Dear Emmaus Rotarians and Friends of Rotary!

We hit our goal of collecting 1000 pounds of plastic for the NexTrex Recycling challenge and we did it early! To date we have submitted 1118 ponds of soft plastics and we still have one last drop to make! (I estimate we will hit 1150lbs total)

Thank you everyone who participated and who got other people in the community involved in this project. In the early days it seemed like this would be an impossible feat but with team work and persistence....one little bag at at time.... we crushed our goal and kept LOTS of plastic out of landfills and nature.  WELL DONE! We came together and created new habits that made an real impact.
I don't think we will ever look at soft plastics the same when we realize just how much we use on a daily basis.

Many thanks to all of you who collected even just one bag of plastic! Every bag counted! Shout out to Kwinn Chistopher and her family for locking in over 200lbs. Joanne Smida for her HUGE contributions from her business and for collaborating with the local Post Office. The Lioness/Lions Club of Emmaus, Buss Paints, Master Supply Line, Rising River Brewing Co, and Eric J. Loch Diamonds Jewelers were BIG  helpers. Our weekly food packing program volunteers gathered LOTS. Sal Verrastro did some heavy lifting! Don Blose packed my car every week.  Community members made drops to the jewelry store.  Giant in Trexlertown made a great partner for drop offs and Len Reed was a real sport about our basement becoming a crazy mountain of bags. He weighed hundreds of pounds, loaded his truck each week and made MANY drops at Giant.

Next steps...I will work out the details on obtaining our park bench and report back. We can then decide where the best place would be to leave our mark with a bench for the community to enjoy in a world with a little less liter.

Shine Bright my Friends,
Meghan Reed
