SHELTER BOXES SAVE LIVES
**President Rick is asking that all members make a voluntary donation at this week's meeting that will go toward the purchase of a second Shelter Box from the ERC in an effort to help the many who need our help around the world.

After checking in with his officers and board members, President Rick Zayaitz is asking all Emmaus Rotarians to contribute toward Shelter Box, each $1000 we send equips and sends one Shelter Box. Our annual budget earmarked $1000 toward Shelter Box and this money is now released and forwarded. Can we do more?

Club Presidents: District Governor Cindy Hornaman asked me to share the following email from ShelterBox with all of you.

Image of Beira City, Mozambique shared by Rotary 9210 DG Hutchson Mthinda

Dear <Cindy>,
Cyclone Idai ripped through Southern Africa and millions have been affected in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe after what the UN says could be the worst natural disaster ever to hit the southern hemisphere. Floods have affected almost 1 million Malawians and forced at least 125,000 from their homes and sadly these numbers continue to rise.

ShelterBox is determined to reach as many families as possible.

Food for the Needy
Ralph Lewis will be back in town for our meeting on Thursday, April 4 so please bring in something for his ongoing Food for the Needy program.
Listening for Understanding....
Marcie Lightwood, from the Institute for Jewish Christian Understanding at Muhlenberg College, spoke about the characteristics of good dialogue. Rotarians present found it a helpful refresher on this valuable tool to build goodwill and community. Copies of her hand-outs are available by asking Lexa Shallcross. Lightwood lives in Bethlehem and is one of the voices on WDIY-FM.

Second Harvest joint Grant Project

Hi Everyone-

Please ask your club members for sign ups to volunteer to help out at the Second Harvest Food Bank grant project to be held on Saturday April 20th. It will start at 9:00 AM and probably last until about noon. We will be building and installing raised garden beds and filling them with soil.

I will be getting back to you with more specific information as to anything which we need to bring, etc. We realized that it is Easter Weekend, but it was the only time that Second Harvest has available.

Direct any questions to me or Cindy and we will coordinate with Second Harvest.

Thanks for your help,
Gary

Staffing LM Community Day Display

The 9th Annual Lower Macungie Community Day is Tuesday, May 7th, 2019.
Our PR ("Promoting Rotary") and Communications Committee is looking for Rotarians to staff our display table. This is a well-attended, packed event with lots of activities like face-painting, kite-building, a petting zoo, senior bingo, tours of the newly expanded library and community center.
We need at least 4 people: 2 or more from set-up to 6 p.m. and 2 or more from 6 p.m. to clean-up. Set-up at the Lower Macungie Community Center on Brookside Road is at 3:30 p.m. and Clean-up is at the end of the event at 8 p.m. There will be a shuttle from the vendors parking area so parking will not be a problem.
Please let John Chisca know you can help showcase Emmaus Rotary and the ways we serve our local communities and the world.
