Above is a picture of the Emmaus Interact High school students enjoying a day at the Miracle League.
You may be asking why the picture of the Interact students? We have a new Emmaus High School Interact Club advisor. Amy Kaunitz is the new advisor for our Interact club. Samantha will be going out on maternity leave in the next few weeks. We thank Samantha for all of her hard work and dedication to the club the past three years.
A little about Amy until she has a chance to tell us herself. Amy spent 12 years teaching middle school and now she is now helping young freshman minds understand and appreciate Social Studies. It is her first year as a teacher at the high school level. When you meet Amy you will see how her enthusiasm, passion, and love of teaching comes out. We have found a new leader for the Interact club. If you happen to run into her on the street or at the supermarket, please say hello. I will have a picture of Amy in a future issue of the Trumpet.
Until then Uncle Bob will be helping her and her students prepare for a very special Halloween at the Miracle League on October 24th. Thank you, Bob, for all of your work with the Miracle League.
In the Fall of 1742, Borough founders Jacob Eberhardt and Sebastian Knauss organized and built a Moravian Church. In 1758, the 102 acre Moravian village was named Emmaus after the Palestinian village in the Gospel of Luke. By the 1800's, it was called Emaus in common usage and was incorporated under that name in 1859. Note the bank inscription in this photo from the Triangle area.
Below is the photo of one of the many artifacts on display at the Emmaus Historical Society on Chestnut Street. Note that both "Emaus" and "Emmaus" are painted on the drum head.
Emmaus Rotary was instrumental in making the permanent change back to Emmaus. In 1938, Rotarians went door to door asking residents to sign a petition asking for the return to two "m's". The petition was presented in court and the return to the original spelling was granted.

We have collected 154 deodorants and this is our last week to reach our optimum goal of 200 for the Angel Network. I will be delivering our contribution to Holy Spirit Church on November 12th. I want to thank all of you who have made contributions to this drive. We are working with the Angel Network again to provide Baskets for families of East Penn School District. In the past, we have collected tuna, soup, dish detergent, and pasta.
Every year when we do this I am amazed at the support of our club and proud to be a member of the best club in the Lehigh Valley!
Emmaus Rotarian Ralph Lewis has moved the collection day for canned goods and food items to this Thursday. He will be front and center to receive the items you bring. He will greet you warmly and thank you profusely.
And if you are numbered among those who forgot to bring something from home, no problem...you can still contribute...drop a dollar bill or two in the rattan basket.
Thank you to all the Emmaus Rotarians who step up every month to support Bethel Bible Food PLUS Pantry, which is supported by other service organizations and ecumenically by area churches.
