President's Message

Greetings everyone!

I wonder when Spring is going to arrive, especially after the snow this weekend, for those that had snow. A couple of inches in higher elevations.

We are in full swing now for our Festival May 31 st . Please think about the best way you can assist that day
or ahead of time. If you have not been very active lately with Rotary, this will be a perfect time to help out. We will need an army of people to make this event a huge success.

Check out the neat things Rotary is doing around the World this month.

See ya next Thursday
The Prez.

P.S. Please remember that Rotary is a politics free zone. While I realize the media is pounding us with negative news lately, Rotary is a place where we can take a rest from all of this.

WHAT IS STEM YEA?

STEM Disciplines Define Our Modern World

STEM-based education delivers more than science and mathematics concepts. Our STEM curriculum helps develop a variety of skill sets that our modern world needs.

We deliver an immersive STEM curriculum that sparks intellectual curiosity and a love of lifelong learning. STEM skills are critical to building a more secure future based on science, humanity and understanding commensurate with Rotary areas of focus such as Protecting our Environment. We hope to awaken an interest in STEM in our students so that they seek STEM courses and careers as a result of their attendance at STEM YEA.

Engaging Middle School Students with hands-On Learning

Hands on Learning Research done by the University of Virginia School of Education (UVA) shows that a lack of science engagement among young children can be carried forward into a lack of science engagement as adults. The question becomes “how do we get and keep students engaged?”— The very latest research from UVA on how to engage students in STEM courses states that activities such as camps, competitions and workshops outside of school have a positive impact on students’ engagement. Our STEM YEA Academy contains Intentional Learning Experiences which have been proven to engage students.

This year, ERC will be sponsoring two students from Lower Macungie Middle School and two students from Eyer who will participate in STEM YEA.

STEM YEA 2025 will take place at Kutztown University from July 10-13.

If you're interested in volunteering at STEM YEA or donating, please see Tony or Dee.
