First and foremost, I'd like to welcome our official 2022-2023 Directors to the Board. Ceil Birdsell, Wade George, Gary Guthrie, and Nelly Kabiru. Thank you all for accepting this important Leadership Role in Rotary. We will hold a brief Induction Ceremony during our weekly program on Thursday.
I'd like to thank Wade and Nelly for serving for another year on the Board. I'd also like to give a very big thank you John Chisca and Courtney Kennedy for serving the Board for 2021-2022 and hanging on until we held our elections. You are all greatly appreciated.
This is a friendly reminder to all that this Thursday, August 25, 2022, is our monthly Board Meeting. As normal it will be held at BCC at 8:30am following our regular Club Meeting.
All Members are welcome to attend our Board Meetings. You may attend in person or via zoom using the link below starting at 8:30am. Attending a Board Meeting is a great way for new members to learn about our Club and get a better understanding of Rotary.
Can you think of a Rotarian Friend who you may not have seen in awhile? Do you think it would brighten that person's day just a bit if you let them know you are thinking of them. Not even to bug them about coming to Rotary...but just to say "hey, how are ya? You ok? I miss you. Remember that time at Rotary when we had so much fun doing xyz...I could go on...and by the way this applies to our friends and family outside of Rotary too.
The Sunshine Committee reminds us that a small gesture can hold a lot of meaning to someone. Recently we dropped our friend Tom Devine a line to let him know we are thinking of him. Some of our members haven't had the opportunity to meet or get to know Tom; but Rotary is like family, and we understand that every member has story and a legacy in ERC. SO...Tom, we know you read the Trumpet! Hello from all of your friends in ERC. We got your message from Jeff. I thought I'd add this special link to your favorite song.
If you'd like to reach out to a member you can use the ClubRunner App on your phone to find their address or visit EmmausRotary.org and log-in to the Member area. If you have trouble let me know and I can help you.
See the Good. Be the Good. Inspire the Good in Others.

Rotary International Theme for 2022-2023 Have you heard? Rotary International President-elect Jennifer Jones (who is also our first female president) has announced the 2022-23 theme Imagine Rotary. “Imagine, a world that deserves our best, where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.” The theme is a special one: the theme graphic was designed by an Australian Indigenous artist to link with the Melbourne Convention in 2023. Some of the symbolism includes: Circle connections to one another Dots around it - our people There are 7 Dots for Rotary's 7 areas of focus Circle + dots around it - a navigation star, our guiding light Green solid line - digging stick (used when doing hard work); for us it's People of Action, represents the tools for getting things done The colors purple, green & white - celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion Freedom to express ourselves differently but still with a special connection Purple is also the color of Rotary's Polio campaign Green represents the Environment White stands for peace; it also represents Empowerment and Newness and also the colors were utilized for the women's movement, highlighting the opportunity to grow our female membership.
Do you love the idea of helping young people become more confident, connected, and cultured?
Are you well organized, a strong communicator and coordinator? The Youth Exchange program is looking for you!
This is the perfect way for you to leave a lasting impact in the world.
Our friend and current Chair, Rose Galeano-Phillips, will be moving on and is ready to share this opportunity with a new leader in ERC. We thank Rose for the outstanding service she has given to ERC through this role (and much more). Rose you are wonderful, and we appreciate all you have done for the young people who have benefited from this program. We are truly grateful for your service to Emmaus Rotary.
Think you’re up for making a big difference? See below to learn more about this very important role in ERC. Please contact Meghan Reed with your interest.
Rotary Youth Exchange builds peace one young person at a time. Youth Exchange Committee involves 4 distinct activities that together create the Youth Exchange Experience. Inbound coordination between our club, our Rotary District, and East Penn School District. Outbound recruiting for long-term and short-term exchanges. Youth Exchange Counselor who connects with the inbound student regularly to make sure everything is going well. Host Family Coordination that includes recruiting and assistance in the vetting process. This club is active throughout the year.

Photos Below. Cindy Hornaman and Mike Mihalik share their experiences in Mfuwe, Zambi while completing a HUGE Global Grant Project. The project built a new science wing, provided computers and lab equipment, and provided vocational training to the teacher at the local school. Congratulations Cindy and Mike on the coordination and completion of this incredibly life changing project for the students of Mfuwe.
1) Worldwide polio cases have decreased an astounding 99% since 1988 due to Rotary’s PolioPlus participation in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Rotarians have vowed not to stop until polio is wiped from the earth to prevent this deadly disease from ever making a comeback.
2) $1.5 billion could be saved annually around the world if polio were eradicated. This money could be applied to other public health priorities, and the savings in human suffering is immeasurable.
3) More than $650 million have been contributed by Rotary members to PolioPlus.
4) The Gates & Buffett Foundation offered to donate $355 million to PolioPlus for polio immunization campaigns in developing countries if Rotarians contributed an additional $200 million by June 2012. Success is imminent as $160 million had already been raised by December 2010.
5) 9,000 secondary-school students annually experience life in another country through the Rotary Youth Exchange.
6) How big is Rotary International? 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world initiate service projects to address today’s challenges, including literacy, disease, hunger, poverty, lack of clean water, and environmental concerns. The clubs get to work immediately whenever a crisis strikes; at this very moment Rotarians are busy in the earthquake regions of New Zealand and Japan.
7) 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders make up the Rotary global network of community volunteers who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and help build goodwill and peace in the world numbers.
8) The organization that holds the highest consultative status given by the United Nations to nongovernmental organizations is Rotary International.
9) The first Rotary club meeting was held in Chicago on February 23, 1905. Five years later in 1910 Canada welcomed its first Rotary club to Winnipeg.
10) The furthest a Rotary Club banner has ever traveled: In 1968 astronaut Frank Borman, member of the Houston Space Center Rotary club, carried a banner on the Apollo 8 flight to the moon!

It's not to late to be part of our Flag fund raising program to support our Feeding Program. You and your neighbors can just go to Flags.EmmausRotary.org and sign up. The program rate is adjusted to the time you sign up. Our goal is 150 flags this year and we are over half way there so far. Door hangers will be available at this weeks meeting. This program can easily grow to 1000 flags. A tiny area in NH has 500+ flags. We can surely beat this.
Every once in awhile we will do a virtual meeting with our Live meeting. This week is one of those times.
The virtual meeting should be started by 7:15a.m. Feel free to chat with your virtual friends and the members in attendance. Please mute yourself when the President starts the meeting. Use the Chat feature to chat with the Zoom Master and others on the virtual meeting. We'll do our best to give you the same feel of the meeting as if you were able to attend in person.
Please Note that if you are attending virtually please use the following ZOOM link!

In 2018 We started collecting the Tabs from all types of cans Soda, Beer, Seltzer, Tuna Fish, Sardines, Soup Cans, Etc. In 2018 we were able to deliver Five Full One Gallon Jugs of Tabs…Last year, 2019 we were able to deliver Three Full One Gallon Jugs of Tabs. So far this year 2020 we now have One Full One Gallon Jugs. I would hope we can again this year, 2020, can fill at least another Five Full One Gallon Jug OR MORE. I turn these into the Miracle League in the Middle of October, right before Halloween. They turn them into the Dupont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington Delaware. Other organizations also collect these Tabs, in total the Hospital has been able sell these for enough Money to pay 75% of the Utilities Cost in their Ronald House, where Families to stay at a very Nominal Cost when their Handicapped Children need to go for Treatment.
